Chapter 16
"Where is she?" Gideon's voice echoed beyond the suite's door, causing Jade to pause for a second and listen as Gideon presumably spoke to Dimitri. "I'll be damned if I tie myself down before knowing what the fuck you've done to Jade," Gideon seethed.
Waving to Dominic, who stood at the end of the hall near the elevators waiting for her to enter the room, Jade stepped across the threshold. The click of her silver heels against the marble floor caused Gideon to whirl around in his spot in the middle of the living room to face her. The butterflies in her stomach fluttered and soared at the sight of his jaw dropping and his eyes going wide. Continuing forward, Jade walked slowly in the diamond-encrusted stilettos until she stopped near the coffee table. Bending at the knee, she kept a smile hidden at the image she surely made as she picked up the earbuds. Straightening to her full height, Jade pushed back her long, now straightened hair from her shoulder and slipped the earbuds in one by one.
"I told you she was getting ready," Dimitri drawled in an, "I told you so" like voice. "Now, sit down and put on the wrist strap."
Still stunned into silence, Gideon licked his dry lips and nodded, never taking his eyes off of her as he plopped down obediently in the seat.
Jade wanted to bite back a grin, but she reminded herself for what felt like the hundredth time not to mess up the beautiful deep maroon matte lipstick. Early that morning, she had received a text message from an unknown number waking her and telling her to get dressed and come back down to the spa. Knowing it was another of Dimitri's warnings, she had risen from the bed and sat her phone on Gideon's chest as he stirred awake. Assuming they were still under the command not to touch or speak, they had shared an intense look that expressed so many unsaid emotions it left Jade feeling a little raw afterward. But now, after hours of treatments, education, and a little time with her thoughts, Jade felt renewed and more confident than she had ever felt in her life. It probably didn't help that Gideon was looking at her as if she were his last breath. Smiling at him, she watched his eyes scan her from head to foot. Taking in the silver face paint of the hand-drawn Venetian style mask that covered half of her face, he let it drop to the exposed column of her neck down to the plunging neckline of her midnight blue silk wraparound dress.
Licking his lips again, Gideon dropped his gaze lower, and Jade shuddered as she felt his eyes hover over her exposed thighs.
"Fucking hell," he grumbled sourly, ripping his gaze from her. "Tell me we can talk now, goddammit?!" Gideon asked angrily.
"Ask me nicely."
Jade could tell from the way the muscle jumped in his cheek that Gideon was grinding his teeth. Looking at the carpet at his feet, he seemed to steel himself before gritting out the words. "May we talk, please?"
Somehow Gideon had made the polite word sound like a curse.
Dimitri chuckled. "You may."
Without hesitation, Gideon rose halfway from his chair and reached for her wrist. "Come here," he growled, his thinning patience audible in his tone.
Sidestepping the grab, Jade smiled coolly at his bewildered look. Stepping closer, she placed one manicured hand at his chest, her silver nails sparkling against his t-shirt.
Pushing him lightly back down to his seat, she shook her head as she stepped between his knees. "Dimitri wants you to be seated and strapped in the chair for this installment," she repeated dutifully.
Gideon's eyes narrowed, and a hand shot up to grab hers at his chest, covering her hand possessively. "Don't say his name, not here, not now," he ordered roughly.
"Don’t listen to him," Dimitri's silky deep voice hummed through her earbud. "You may say my name as much as you want."
Keeping her smile at bay, she gave him a nod.
Reaching down to the straps around the chair's arms, she carefully strapped the Velcro strips into place around his forearms.
"Jade, what does he have you doing?" Gideon asked, suspicion heavy in his tone.
Jade opened her mouth to reply just as a knock sounded at the door. Gideon jerked in his chair as she took a step towards the door.
"Jade!" he called out in warning. "I swear to God this better not be some freaky ass three-way shit!"
Opening the door, she grabbed at the cart sitting by itself and pulled it inside. Wheeling it to where Gideon sat, she opened one of the golden domes and showed him the food. Only some of the suspicion in his eyes abated.
Reaching down, she unstrapped her sandals and stepped out of the tall shoes. Wiggling her toes against the carpet, Jade stepped forward and placed one leg through Gideon's seat back and braced herself on his shoulders before replicating the same move with the other until she was chest to chest sitting on his lap.
Satisfied, Gideon let out a sigh. "Baby, talk to me. Why aren't you talking? Where have you been all day? What has that bast-"
Jade cut him off with a kiss.
"Smart move," Dimitri voiced in their ears.
Melting into the pure pleasure of his kiss, Jade cupped the sides of Gideon's face holding him steady as she slanted her mouth over his. Gideon groaned as her tongue found his, and he leaned forward in his chair towards her, pressing his chest against hers.
"I love you," she let the passionate words tumble from her lips, feeling a frisson of exhilaration spike through her veins at the honest admission.
Kissing her back fiercely, Gideon turned his head, somehow taking her deeper even though she was supposed to be in control. A rumbling groan vibrated through his chest and into hers, and he pulled away from her lips with a heavy pant.
