“Fuck what you feel.” I told him.
Using the bloody tip of the knife, I lifted his chin so our eyes could meet. Sweat was now dotting his forehead, over the bridge of his knows and his temples. He panted while staring daggers at me.
I still didn’t care.
“Your options are limited, so listen carefully.” I began. “Or is,I don’t wanna talk to the vagina, your final answer?”
He nodded.
“Good.” I straightened my spine. “If you walk out of here, you’re gonna call off the hit on Cage and you’re gonna leave him be.”
“And if I don’t?”
I jammed the blade into his other thigh.
“Bitch!” He screamed.
“There’s your answer.” I told him. “Come for cage again, that means, you come for me. If you don’t agree to my terms, I put a bullet in your forehead and call it a day. I don’t care which—I’m down for either.”
“Make a decision.” Mack growled. “We don’t have all night.”
“I’ll call off the hit.” Antonio groaned.
“Where did you post the job?” Hermes asked.
“On the Badlands Border site.” Antonio replied.
I pulled out my phone and called Swede.
“Hey handsome, I need a favour.”
“Gimme what you got.” Swede replied.
I told him about the website and in no time at all, Swede had the hit cancelled with Antonio’s family crest and his signature. Once that was done, I turned and looked at Antonio who was stunned that we had the power to do that.
‘Listen up.” I hunched in front of him again. “We’re going to leave you here so you can think about the decisions you’ve made. But if I see you again—and trust me, Antonio, youwillsee it coming.”
I walked over to Mack and wrapped his good arm around my shoulder so he could lean on me as I walked him out. It took a little while to get back to our vehicle because he was limping a little more than normal.
I knew what that mean. We had to get him somewhere safe and remove his prosthetic leg before the swelling became too bad.
I groaned and pressed my foot down on the gas a little harder.
“Slow down, Jager.” Mack sighed from behind me. “The bleeding stopped, and the bullet went clean through. I’ll be fine.”
But I didn’t listen until he leaned forward and touched my shoulder.
“Arin.” His voice flowed softly over my legal name. “I’m a little sore but I’m okay.”
I slowed the vehicle, but only a little.
Back at the plane, Hermes’ friend had it fueled up for us and was waiting. Thankfully, he’d trained as a medic in the military and was able to clean Mack up a little better than we could have. He also gave him some pain medication that should last us until we returned stateside and could take Mack to one of the Protectors’ doctors.
Hermes’ friend checked my arm—it wasn’t broken. Then again by the time I arrived at the plane I figured it wasn’t. But I’d jammed it up really good.
I passed on the meds he tried given me but took a couple of whiskey shots on the plane.
Cage stayed by Mack’s side the entire time—he was worried, and I could see that in the short time since they’d met, Cage had become attached to Mack. As the plane shimmied through the night sky, Cage fell asleep on the sofa across from Mack’s, Tianna was asleep in her seat and Hermes was staring out the window.
