“You embrace it.” She advised. “The best kind of emotion you can get from your man is the one he doesn’t have to put into words. The times I enjoyed being toldI love youfrom Hermes in the moments when he stares at me as if I’m this queen.”
Sighing, I paused for a moment. “It will wear off, right?”
“If you let it.”
“I’m not like you, Tianna.”
“What does that mean?” Tianna wanted to know.
“I don’t do dresses and cute.”
“Is that what Mack told you he wanted?” Tianna asked.
I shook my head.
“Then, why do you assume that’s what he wants?”
Before I could reply, Hemes returned, and we all sat down to go through what he’d learned with Swede on video trying to confirm all the information he’d gathered.
It was at that moment someone tried hacking Swede’s computer. He paused for a moment to send them a virus to destroy their system, then came back, smiling—very proud of himself.
I shook my head. Though it was a serious situation, I had to laugh.
“You’re a dick.” I accused.
“If they wanted to know something.” Swede send us a map. “They could have just asked.”
“Would you have told them?” Hermes asked.
“No.” Swede smirked. “But that’s beside the point.”
“She’s right.” Tianna laughed. “You’re a dick.”
Soon, the plan was set.
The jet was at one of Hermes’ friend’s place, and well hidden. And we all agreed that Tianna and Cage would be safe there until we could do what we had to do. Once we finished, we might be hauling ass back to the jet to take off.
Either way, we had a way out.
Cage didn’t want to leave us. He clung to Mack all the way to the plane. I tried getting Mack to stay with him, but that was like banging my head into a wall. Infuriated, I stormed out of the plane, trying to gather myself.
“You can’t blame him.” Hermes’ voice was soft from behind me. “He’s a man—that gene inside us that makes us want to protect the woman we love, even if the woman doesn’t need our protection.”
“Love? Mack doesn’t love me.”
“No?”
“At least.” I paused. “Ask him before you make that decision in your head. He looks at you the same way I looked at Tianna when we first met. But that’s not my point.”
“Then what is your point?”
“My point is, he wants to protect you.” Hermes stressed. “He wants to show you, he’s capable of keeping you safe.”
“I don’t need him to do that.”
“Again, Jager. Not the point.”
“This game is makin’ my head hurt.” I groaned, rubbing my eyes.
