Jager nodded. “Let us know when you land. We’ll let you know where we are.”

“Deal.”

When he hung up, Jager put her phone away, but I couldn’t handle the jealousy that stormed through me. She wasn’t mine to keep and I meant what I said that just because her and I slept together didn’t mean she owed me anything.

“All we have to do now is wait.” She was saying when I shook my head to clear it.

“Yeah.” I stood. “I’m going to take a shower.

Cage had rolled over, tossing the coat back to the ground. Instead of putting it back over him, I folded it and tossed it over the back of the sofa then headed toward the back where the bathroom and only bedroom was.

“Wait a minute.” Jager called. “What’s going on?”

“What do you mean?”

“You’re sullen.”

I scoffed but kept walking. Closing myself into the bathroom, I wanted to punch something—Maksim’s face. After staring at myself in the mirror for a bit, I used the bathroom, showered quickly then dressed and exited.

Jager was on a video call with Swede.

“You activated Hermes?” Swede was asking.

“I didn’t have a choice.” She growled at him. “We need to end this mess and keep Cage safe. We can’t do that if we keep having assholes tryin’ to take our heads off. They know we were headin’ for the border and they’re gonna keep comin’.”

“What do you want from me?” Swede asked.

“For the moment?” Jager looked up at me. “Nothin’. We’re waitin’ for Hermes. Once he gets here, Mack and I will re-evaluate and go from there.”

“Are you sure you don’t want me to send Kujo and Montana your way?” Swede wanted to know.

“No.” Jager responded. “We got this.”

“Jager…” Swede paused. “You’re not thinking I screwed you, are you?”

“I don’t know what to think.”

She hung up.

I said nothing.

Walking over to where we had our snacks, I picked up a small bag of chips and popped it open. After I crunched into one, I offered Jager some, but she declined.

“Tell me what’s wrong,” she said instead.

“Hermes…”

“You’re jealous.”

“Like I said before.” I shoved another chip in my mouth and chewed. “You owe me nothing.”

Setting the bag on the small table in front of her, I stood.

“I’m going to get some sleep.” I told her. “You can take the bed.”

“Whoa!” She grabbed my arm. “If you want to know who Hermes is to me, I’ll tell you.”

“Like I said—”
