“Are you jealous?” She countered.
“Yes.” My voice cracked.
The strength of the truth shook something loose inside me.
I held her tighter.
“Wait—what?” She sat up again to look down into my face. “You’re jealous of Mozart?”
“Why do you think I went at him that first day?” I asked her. “Mozart and I were friends. But seeing the way you were with him—I couldn’t stop myself. Stupid, right?”
“But you didn’t know anything about me then.”
“That had nothing to do with anything.” I shifted but kept my eyes on her. “Listen, Abigail. I want you to do me a favour.”
“If I can.”
“I want you to be a little more confident when we’re in moments like this.” I told her. “The same strength you walk into battle with, walk into my bedroom like that.”
“You’re assuming I want to stay in your bedroom.”
“I am.” I found one of her nipples through the sheet and pinched. “I’m banking on you wanting me again the way I want you.”
“What if I can’t find your brother?”
“That has nothing to do with what my body wants.”
She smiled and leaned down to kiss me.
“Come back to bed.” I whispered to her, pulling her into my arms. “For tonight the world isn’t shit. For the rest of the night, I am to you what a man should be to a beautiful woman.”
“Horny?”
I smirked. “Hers.”
Frost gasped softly. “You’re saying—”
“That for the rest of the night—if that’s all you want from me—I’m yours.”
Chapter 9
Frost
It was still dark outside when I surged upright in bed. Jesse had his arm tossed possessively across my hip but the crunch of footsteps outside the bedroom forced me out of the bed. I quickly hauled on my clothes, grabbed the gun from the bedside table and inched toward the door. Standing by the side, I peered out, all I saw was the dimly lit seating area.
“Frost?” Jesse moaned.
“Shh.” I shushed him while rushing back to stand by the side of the bed. “Stay here.”
“What’s—”
“Stay here.”
Jesse nodded but a part of me knew he wouldn’t do as I asked.
Still, I returned my attention to the task at hand. When I stepped from the bedroom, someone was busy digging through the pile of papers we had with research. The figure then moved toward Jesse’s bag and began going through that. I tiptoed to the meal cart and picked up one of the sterling silver trays.
I whistled and when the person turned, I brought the tray crashing into the face.
