“Oh, we can make that work.” Mozart replied. “Jesse?”

“I’m in.” Jesse replied.

As we led Wolf and Mozart from the base and further into the city, I couldn’t help feeling as if I was floating on air.

I was so happy as I maneuvered through the streets humming Def Leppard’sPour Some Sugar on Me.

Jesse laughed. “Maybe a little later?”

“Huh?” I asked.

“You’re telling me to pour some sugar on you.” Jesse chuckled. “Maybe I’ll use chocolate sauce instead.”

I blushed and giggled. “Yes, please. I think I’ll enjoy that.”

At a stop sight, he leaned in and kissed me deeply.

Epilogue

Jesse

I set a beer in front of Mozart then fell into the seat across from him on the back deck. It’d been three months since arriving back in Norfolk and life had been different. Living with a woman was something I never thought I’d ever do. Yet, thinking of Frost not being there when I woke up in the mornings terrified me.

Her phone rang and she excused herself to lift the cell to her ear. “Tink! How are you? Oh, really? I’ll tell him. I don’t think that should be an issue but let me talk to Jesse and let you know.”

“Talk to Jesse about what?” I called to her once she hung up.

“That was Kandi.” She told me.

“Tink? She okay?”

Frost nodded and jogged over to drop a kiss to my mouth. “She’s heading this way soon and was asking if she could crash at out place until she finds a place.”

I shrugged. “I don’t see an issue.”

Frost, cheered, kissed me deeply then made her way indoors where the others were. I could feel Mozart’s eyes on me and shook my head.

“What?”

“Nothing.” Mozart smirked. “You’ve managed to tame the blizzard.”

I frowned. “I didn’t tame her. She’s still as wild and unpredictable as ever. I just learned to trust that she won’t do anything too crazy without reason.”

Mozart nodded knowingly while lifting his bottle in a silent toast. “I tell you one thing. I never saw this coming.”

“Didn’t see what coming?”

“You and Frost.”

I scoffed and took a long drink from my bottle. “Why is that?”

“I don’t know.” Mozart replied. “But I’m happy for her and for you. She’s a good woman, Jesse.”

“Then why did you let her go?”

“It wasn’t that easy.” He replied. “We were in a different time when we didn’t—it didn’t work and that happens all the time.”

I nodded and turned my eyes out across the distance for the water. From time to time, I couldn’t help thinking Frost had been close to Mozart first. In those moments, when I allowed my mind to really go there, it angered me and I couldn’t ignore the strain between us. Sure, Frost had given me no reason to be jealous but knowing this man knew her a little more than I did, bothered me.
