“Thank you for your help.”
“Please keep the garden closed until we figure this out.”
Sharp’s eyes went wide as he nodded. “Yes, definitely. No one’s going out there anytime soon. Not even the garden caretakers.”
“Good. Talk to you soon.”
Miles waved the rest of us out and shut the door behind us before we left the museum. I was surprised the kids hadn’t put up a fight about leaving their shifts early, but I was glad they hadn’t. They must’ve realized how badly Chaos needed to get treated.
We reached our truck, and Miles asked, “Your car’s working now?”
Aeson grinned. “Yep. It’s all good. Picked it up this morning.”
“Good.”
The kids opened their car doors, and Miles winced.
“Hold up, guys. Put a tarp on the seat before Chaos sits down or you’re gonna wind up with pixie dust in your upholstery. And trust me, that’s a pain in the ass to get out.”
He unlocked his truck and handed over a tarp, and Aeson said, “Thanks.”
They walked over to their car, and we quickly threw tarps on our seats before climbing in. Miles waited to make sure the kids were on their way, and then we were driving back home.
“What a clusterfuck.”
He sighed. “Tell me about it. That was a nightmare. We should’ve worn our gear in there.”
“Yeah, but last time, Sharp didn’t want anyone to see us in our gear, so I’m not sure he would’ve even let us inside if we had.”
He sighed again. “Yeah, true.”
“Plus, we were just supposed to be taking a peek. We should’ve been far enough away, but the pixies probably recognized us.”
He shot me a tired smile. “Probably.”
When he pulled into his driveway, I said, “I can run home to shower while you’re in there so the kids can use the other bathroom.”
He frowned but nodded. “You can do that. Or you can just go after me, if you want.”
“Alright. I’ll come inside. I just don’t want to track extra dust into your house.”
“At this point, I don’t think it’ll matter. Just don’t sit on any of the furniture, please.”
I grinned and winked at him. “Yes, sir.”
He snorted and climbed out of the truck.
The kids parked in front of the house and met us at the door, looking nervous.
Miles, clearly noticing their nerves and trying to calm them, unlocked the door, speaking without looking at them. “There’s a bathroom in the hall upstairs that you guys can use. It has soap, shampoo, conditioner, face wash, lotion, all the things in there already, so you should be good. But if you’re missing something or need something else, let me or Win know so we can get it for you.”
Chaos cleared his throat, looking awkward. “Um, do you have towels?”
“Oh. Yeah, they’re in the hall closet right next to the bathroom. It’s at the top of the stairs. You can’t miss it.”
“Cool. Thanks.”
Miles nodded. “I’m gonna go get in the shower myself. I have a bathroom in my bedroom.” He hesitated. “You need anything else?”
