She was your real mother.
She was your real mother.
Heather…
I drop the letter and bring my hand to my heart.
MyGod.
I can’t believe what I just read.
So Mom wasn’t my realmother?
Mom?
No wonder there were times when it felt like she didn’tcare. It was because she didn’t.
She wasn’t my real mother and I lived a life with an evil bastard for a father. One who played a dangerous game that dragged everyone else intoit.
Logan
“Are you going to tell me what’s up your ass?” Ethan asks.
“No. There’s nothing up my ass,” I practically snap at him.
I’ve just barged into his house like it’s mine because I have a lead on our case and that’s all I want to talk about.
I’ve been walking a thin line since I saw Quinn yesterday and I’ve been working nonstop to distract myself.
Yesterday he messaged me to let me know a missing person report had been filed for the woman who knew the last victim in our triple homicide.I think she was kidnapped, and I think I might know where she is.
“I’m here on business.”
“On Sunday?” Ethan raises a brow.
“Yes, so it’s an emergency.”
“Alright let’s hear it.”
“I think the guy we’re looking for is definitely Billy. You said the women were drugged before they were murdered.”
“Yeah.” He looks serious now.
“What drug was it?”
“That new party drug.”
I pull a sheet of paper from my back pocket and hand it to him. It’s a printout of bank transactions from a drug dealer one of my guys was tracking.
“That’s from Dennis Proctor, the party drug dealer. My systems flashed red when he got a deposit of half a million dollars.I traced the account the money came from.It belongs to Billy. There’s a cabin in the woods near Charlotte he’s been going to.I’ve had eyes on him but I think we should go in and check it out.Obviously, I need a search warrant to do so.Meaning I need you.”
“Like fuck, let’s go.” Ethan was already grabbing his jacket before I finished talking.
The way I felt when I first figured it out, I don’t know how I restrained myself from driving over there and kicking that motherfucker’s ass from here to kingdom come. But I probably would have killed him. Then Ethan would be in trouble, probably lose his job and I’d spend the rest of my days in prison.
We take his car so we can put the siren on and after I hand him the address we speed down the road like we’re doing a high speed chase.
“Holy fuck, Logan. I can’t believe you found all that shit,” Ethan says.
