In typical Riley style, though, he’s just looking at me like I’m a joke and he doesn’t need to answer my question.
“Answer me,” I demand.
“I don’t have the answer for that yet, Quinn,” he replies.“I don’t, however, need to be married to you to have you.”
“You need to let me go.”
“I don’t need to do anything. It’s all about what I want to do.You’ve seen too much and know too much. What you have was worse than I feared, so I have to be careful with you. You’re lucky though.”
I have to laugh. “You asshole, why am I lucky. You think this is luck?” The combination of what I’m saying and the shrill timbre of my voice makes me sound more ballsy than I feel. But the truth is, I’m more terrified than angry.
Riley has a gun. I won’t be foolish enough to think he won’t use it.
“I love you,” he replies and my stomach squeezes with disgust.“I have been in love with you since your father promised you to me.”
“Like I said before, you don’t know the meaning of the word.It took you all of one month after we met to show me who you really were when you thought it was a good idea to screw the maid.My damn accident was because of you.I nearly died and the shit didn’t stop there.”
I feel even more disgusted when he smiles at me.“Quinn, just because a man sleeps around doesn’t mean he has no feelings for you.”
“You were my husband, you weren’t supposed to be sleeping around.”
“Each to their own. Here’s what’s going to happen. You and I are going back to L.A. and we’re going home. You will not breathe a word of what was on that recording to anyone. If you do, and I find out, I’ll make your boyfriend disappear.”
God... I’m back here again.
Back to the threat of Logan’s life.
It’s not Dad this time. It’s my evil ex-husband.
“Leave him out of this,” I blurt, jumping to my feet.
He stands too and grabs my arm so tight his nails dig into my skin.“I don’t think so. You screw with me and I’ll screw with you and eliminate the one thing left you to have to lose.Push me, and I’ll kill you.”
“You bastard.”
“How about you get on your hands and knees and I’ll show you what kind of bastard I am.” He pulls me toward the bedroom and I try to free myself of his grasp.
“Let go of me!”
“Shut up and get in the room.”
He pushes me forward and I trip over my feet falling hard on the wooden floor.
I scream when he picks me up because he’s holding on to my arm so tight it hurts and I know he means to hurt me.
He hurls me onto the bed and gets on top of me, sending panic crashing through my body in waves.
My last attempt to get away is a slap to his face, but apart from my nails raking over his cheek, he’s barely fazed.
Tears pour from my eyes as he growls and grabs my throat. It’s then I accept my doom.
I’m not going to be able to get out of this.
I’m not going to be able to get away from him. He’s too big and strong.
“You little bitch, you’ll pay for that.”
As he tears off my shirt, the crash of the door bursting open makes him freeze mid-movement.
