The next thing I see is Logan, and I can’t believe my eyes.
“What the fuck do you think you’re doing!” Riley sneers.
He gets off me and rushes over to the dressing table to grab his gun.And that’s all Logan allows him to do.
Riley doesn’t get to aim it, Logan rushes him and lands a punch straight in his face that sends him flying backward through the air.
Logan grabs the gun and slaps Riley with it before he throws it to the side.
“You stupid prick. I’ll beat you fucking senseless,” Logan yells and continues to land one punch after another in Riley’s face.
Riley doesn’t stand a chance against someone like Logan with all that muscle, military training, and anger.
Ethan rushes in with five other police officers, and he’s the only one that can get Logan off Riley.
Logan straightens and pulls something from his pocket. It’s a memory stick.
“Here,” he says to Ethan. “This will lock his ass up for a long time.He won’t come for my girl again.”
Riley’s still on the floor with his face battered, but I can see the panic in his eyes.
Logan made a copy of the file.I don’t even care that he did, or that I didn’t know.He couldn’t have chosen a more perfect time to unleash it.
As Ethan proceeds to arrest Riley, he knows it’s over.Any plans Riley had are over, and I don’t think I have to worry about him ever again.
When Logan comes over to me, I throw my arms around him.
“You’re safe, baby,” he says, stroking my hair.“You’re safe with me, Quinn. I’m so sorry I left you.”
“It’s okay,” I mutter, and he holds me closer in a warm embrace I don’t ever want to leave.
Chapter 52
Logan
We’re home, but Ethan’s with Quinn taking a statement and talking about the recordings.
I left them to talk while I checked out the damage to the studio caused by the fire.I also needed a moment to think about what I was going to do next.
Thank God I made the copy of the files.Quinn told us what Riley did to her copy, right before he led her out of the house at gunpoint.
It infuriated me to hear what she’d gone through. But, that fucker, Riley Langdon really did himself in and he’ll begoing away for a very long time.
I still can’t believe I wasn’t here. That asshole swooped in when I had my back turned and this is the result.
I don’t want to think of what might have happened to Quinn if I’d gotten to her a second later than I did.
The whole occurrence snapped me into focus.
The thought of losing Quinn or something bad happening to her put everything in perspective. And I know what I’m going to do.
“It’s gone,” says a voice from behind me.It’s Bree.
I turn to see her saddened face and I feel bad for her.
“I’m sorry,” I reply.
“Me too. What do you think she’ll do now?The dream’s gone again.”
