Chapter 19
Alex

“Man I swear to God. All manner of shit happens to me when you go away.” I gushed.
“You put yourself through shit, Alex.” Marc raised his dark brows and laughed
“No, it comes to get me every time you go somewhere. I’m convinced.”
Marc continued to laugh and adjusted his cufflinks. “I forget how much babysitting you need.”
I laughed too. He’d come back yesterday, and should have probably taken today off to recover and get back to Chicago time but came into work because he knew I could do with seeing him.
We’d sat in my office for over an hour. I’d brought him up to speed on the recent developments and we’d talked like we always did.
Having him back was good for me.
Talking to him in person was even better, although I was having a difficult time concentrating.
I was stuck on what happened last night.
Stuck on knowing that I was the second man Summer had been with.
I wished I could have been her only, but that wasn’t fair since I was shamefully a far cry from being that innocent.
I thought of Summer again and her gorgeous body. The image of her undoing her buttons for me filled my mind and made my cock stir.
God, I wanted that woman so badly my whole body ached. I only left her last night because I wanted to be the only thing on her mind. I didn’t want her thinking about that damn Tom when she was with me.
I wanted her all to myself, every part of her. Mind, body, and soul.
I’d held back when I was on the phone to Tom. I would have lashed out a lot more if she wasn’t in the room with me.
It was unbelievable that anyone could do what he did and hurt her like that. Last night was something else and I could have killed the asshole for interrupting what would have been a wild sex filled night. But then I suppose that if he hadn’t called I wouldn’t have known what was going on with Summer.
It all made sense now.
I wouldn’t have known all that she’d gone through. I still got the feeling though that there was more.
Call it intuition.
She’d told me a lot, heck it was more than the average person had to deal with, but I felt I’d gotten to know her well enough that I could tell more was on her mind. There was something else she wasn’t saying, but it was fine. I didn’t want to pry too much. If she wanted to tell me she would hopefully do so eventually.
We seemed to have gotten somewhere though. We’d made progress.
“Earth to Alex.” Marc was waving his hand in front of me and looking at me like he’d said something.
I hadn’t heard a word.
“I’m sorry man. My mind is elsewhere.”
“Yup, I can see that. Specifically on blonde hair and green eyes. Can’t wait to see her in person.”
“She’s great.”
“What are you going to do about the settlement meeting?” Marc asked
