“Since both of you made your feelings known about him, you can get out of my office.” I glared at both of them, waiting for them to leave. They were just like my family. The sad part about that was that Skylar had warned me about them. I didn’t listen, but my eyes were open now.

They stomped out of my office and slammed my door shut. Once the door was closed, I went back to my desk. With trembling fingers, I picked my phone up and dialed Melijah’s number. I needed him right now.

He answered on the first ring. “Wassup? Why are you calling after only being at work for an hour?”

I smiled through the tears that wanted to fall. “Umm... I just needed to hear your voice.”

That wasn’t a total lie since hearing his voice always did something to me.

“Uh huh. Why do I have a feeling you’re lying? Why does it sound like you want to cry? I told you that if I have to come up there, it won’t be pretty. What the fuck happened, Elianna?” he asked in a stern tone.

I gave him a rundown of what had taken place. Even when I talked, he’d mumble something under his breath, which made me smile, knowing he’d go to war for me.

“Can you take off?” he asked.

I lifted a brow. “Wait. What? Take off? You mean you want me to get off of work right now?”

“No. I mean, do you have PTO? You need time off from that job. If you can’t, then still take off. I don’t want you to stress when you have to take care of yourself. Not only for your ownsake but also for the baby’s. If you need me to, I’ll come and get you.”

“No.” I almost shouted. “I can take off. I have some vacation time I can use.”

“Good. Meet me at my apartment.”

“Okay. I’ll see you when I get there.”

“Word. And drive carefully.”

I smiled. “Will do.”

Once we hung up the phone, I packed my things and grabbed a few files I needed to review for the week. After I was done, I left my office. I didn’t know when I’d be returning, but I was going to listen to my man. Melijah knew what he was talking about half the time. Maybe this break was what I needed too, so I would be making the best of it.

Seven MonthsPregnant

I did something I had never done before... took off work for a week, which was one of the best things I had ever done. It had been two days since I walked out of the law firm without looking back. If Melijah hadn’t told me to take off, I probably wouldn’t have. Now that I had time off, I planned to relax and catch up on my reading. Today, I was seven months pregnant. I had two more months to go. Lately, I hadn’t been feeling pretty. Everything had spread on me, even my nose. I didn’t know how Melijah could look at me. I had never felt as insecure as I did at that moment.

“What’s wrong?” Melijah asked, taking a seat next to me on the couch.

I shrugged as I stared at the TV screen in front of me.Charmedplayed, but I barely paid attention to it.

He soothingly rubbed my back. “You’ve been slouching since you took off from work. Do you feel like you made the wrong decision?”

I turned to face him, and he averted his eyes to my stomach. MJ moved around as soon as I switched positions. Melijah placed his hand on my stomach.

“Wassup, baby boy?” He leaned down and kissed my bump.

“To answer your question, no, I don’t feel like I made the wrong decision. I don’t feel pretty anymore. Do you see how I’m looking?”

He took a moment to roam his eyes up and down my body before he licked his lips.

“Oh yeah, baby. I see you, and you look amazing to me. Why do you feel like that? You’re beautiful.”

I wanted to roll my eyes, but I held it in. “You’re just saying that.”

He shook his head. “Nah, baby. I’m not. You’re probably just feeling that way because you’re going through hormonal changes. I’m here to tell you, you look good as hell. Let’s get out of the apartment for the day. Maybe you need some sun in your life.”

That sounded like a good idea. As I’d progressed further in my pregnancy, I’d found that I didn’t want to do much but sleep more.

“Okay, we can do something. Do you have anything in mind?”
