He stared at me with his head tilted before we burst out laughing.
He shook his head, reaching for his cup of lemonade. “I don’t like you, man.”
I tried getting control of my laughter, but it was hard to do. “Whatever. I guess I’ll drink this water and mind my business.”
“Good.”
We ate in silence, and I took the time to observe my surroundings.
“I have a feeling I’m going to need a nap,” Melijah stated with a yawn.
He wasn’t the only one. That seemed to be one of our favorite things to do. “We can take a nap when we get to your apartment.”
He frowned. “We need to stop by your house and drop the baby items off first, so we might as well take a nap while we’re there.”
I huffed. “Fine.”
My mouth dropped as I stared at Melijah with my eyes wide. “Oh my gosh! You’re cheating!”
He burst out laughing. “Nah,” he stated, shaking his head. “I’m not. You can stack a draw two on each other. We didn’t set the rules.”
I shook my head, not at all familiar with that way of playing Uno. To me, he cheated and needed to take that off.
“Nope. I’m not about to draw four cards. You’re cheating.” I folded my arms across my chest.
“Man, don’t be that way. We should have set the rules. But you’re going to draw them four cards,” he stated matter-of-factly.
I opened my mouth and closed it before I glared at him, wanting to know who he thought he was bossing around.
Before I could say anything back, I heard keys in my door and groaned.Damn it! I wasn’t expecting them today.Melijah and I were in the living room at the coffee table with our snacks for the evening.
After we got home from the mall, we took a nap and then decided to play some cards for a while. I enjoyed all my time with Melijah, no matter what we were doing, but we couldn’t play cards together. It always ended up with us fussing.
Melijah looked at me and lifted a brow as the door opened. Both of us stood up, and he reached to pull my shirt down over my baby bump.
“Eli!” Jada called out before she and Camila entered the living room. “Girl, wassup? You don’t know us anymore?”
“Hey, Eli. Never mind her. You know how she is.” Camila rolled her eyes.
“Hey, y’all. I’ve been busy. Plus, we see each other at work. Y’all see Melijah, right? Melijah, these are my friends Camila and Jada,” I introduced them, stepping closer to Melijah. I hoped like hell, they acted like they had some sense.
Melijah nodded his greeting. “Yo, wassup?”
They pressed their lips together and just stared at him. Were they going to speak or what? Camila had the nerve to turn her nose up and turn her attention to me.
“Girl, you’re glowing. Look at you. The pregnancy agrees with you.”
Jada nodded with a smile. “Yes. I can agree to that.”
I gawked at my friends. They were unbelievable. They ignored Melijah as if he weren’t even there. That was something I refused to tolerate. Not now or ever.
I placed my hands on my hips and glared at both of them. “Have y’all lost your minds? Melijah spoke to you.”
They only stared at me. How in the hell were they going to disrespect my company in my house? I needed them to make that make sense.
Melijah chuckled. “Nah, it’s all good. If they were to speak after that, it wouldn’t matter.”
“What is y’all’s problem? It’s just a greeting. Damn!” I felt my blood pressure rise, and I tried breathing in and out, but that was difficult, especially since I was pissed off.
