He pulled her toward him. “Sorry, Judith, you promised and can’t renege on the deal now. And keep your eyes and ears open about Walt. Don’t want to see that bonus go away.”
Later, as he labored on top of a loudly moaning and writhing Judith, he was thinking far more about her husband than he was about her.
CHAPTER

NASH WAS IN HIS STUDYwhen Judith returned home late that night. He appeared in the doorway as she was heading up the stairs.
“Did you have a good time?”
She was startled. “Walter? I thought you’d already be asleep.”
“Just finishing up some work.”
“Yes, it was nice. Jean is doing another triathlon in September in Thailand.”
“Better her than me.”
“I was actually thinking about going out there, to cheer her on, do some shopping, see the sights. I might even venture to some other places. Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam.”
“Sounds exciting.”
“You wouldn’t care to come, I’m sure, right?”
“You know that’s my busiest month.”
“Oh, I forgot.” Judith had picked September for that very reason.
“Maybe Maggie would like to go.”
“Oh, I doubt that,” Judith said quickly.
“It might be good for her influencer business.”
“I thought you didn’t want her jetting around the world.”
“You’re right, I don’t. By the way, she got home about twenty minutes ago.”
“I’m glad you patched things up with her.” She stared at Nash for perhaps a beat too long.
“Everything okay?” he asked.
“It’s fine. I’m just tired. Did you eat?”
“Yes, I did, plenty.”
“You never eat plenty, Walter.”
“Am I that predictable?”
Her face fell but just for a moment. “I like predictable. It’s reassuring. You’re my rock. My… Eagle Scout.”
“Thanks, babe.”
She slipped off her high heels, and headed up the stairs as he returned to his desk.
On the blotter was the letter from his father.
