“Go with your father so you can go buy it,” she said, and very delicately separated her from her body so she would come to me, causing my daughter to stretch her little arms toward me.

“Come here, little one.”

“Well, now you’ll have to take her shopping. Aurora wants the Sleeping Beauty dress, I don’t think it will be too difficult for you to find it.”

“What?” I said, because I still didn’t understand what she was talking about.

I would buy my daughter anything, especially if it brought her such joy, but I really didn’t know what the doctor was talking about.

“Aurora wants the Sleeping Beauty dress. You can find it in any toy store,” she explained, standing in front of me.

She was a tall, slender woman, and although the lab coat didn’t leave much to the imagination, I had a feeling this woman must have a spectacular body. While my mind was wandering about the doctor’s anatomy, Aurora surprised me by turning and stretching to hug her, which caused our bodies to collide. Her perfume reached my nostrils and I had to make a great effort to calm myself; it was intoxicating. When our eyes made contact, I almost drowned in them; that gray was hypnotic. What the hell was it about this woman that disturbed me so much?! I needed to get out of there.

“Little one, what are you doing?” I said, trying to separate myself.

“It’s no problem. Aurora and I have already become friends,” she affirmed, but I could tell she was also a bit dazed or embarrassed.

“Friends?”

“You shouldn’t be surprised. To my delight, I have hundreds of friends between the ages of 0 and 16.”

When she smiled, my world changed direction. It was the sweetest and most wonderful smile I had ever seen in my life. This woman was impressive. My eyes remained fixed on her sensual mouth and I couldn’t look away.

An imperative voice managed to snap me out of it.

Thank goodness!I thought, seeing the nurse speak to me so sternly, because it brought me back down to earth.

“And you’re lucky that Dr. Dulcet was here, she’s the angel of pediatrics, there’s not a child who can resist her charms. The doctor is adored by all her patients, and by the parents too... I mean fathers and mothers. It’s also good for you to know, Mr. Cavaller, that the doctor shouldn’t even be here, she should have left the clinic hours ago, but as always, she put her patients before her own life, so instead of shouting in the corridors, you should be thanking her,” she stated, looking at me as if she wanted to cut off my head.

I had to agree with her on many things. Dr. Dulcet was an angel, in appearance and, from what I had seen, in her treatment of children. I had no doubt that this woman was adored by everyone, and I could imagine the fathers drooling as they devoured her with their eyes.

Just like you’re doing!the voice of my conscience told me.

Imagining men devouring her with their eyes made me feel an annoyance I couldn’t understand, and on the other hand, the last thing the nurse had said didn’t make me feel very good given my bad behavior toward the doctor. She had stayed to take care of Aurora and I had implied she was incompetent.

“Aurora, we need to go.”

“Divon,Divon,” Aurora called her, but I wasn’t planning to stay a second longer.

“You have to go get the princess dress, don’t forget. And you can come visit me whenever you want, in fact, you should ask Alba to bring you so you can show me how beautiful you look in that dress.”

I left there as quickly as I could. From her words, it was clear to me that she was suggesting that I shouldn’t be the one tobring my daughter to see her, but she needn’t worry because I had no intention of going back there either; that woman was too disconcerting.

We found theSleeping Beautycostume after going into 5 toy stores. I was already exhausted. Thank you, Dr. Dulcet! Although I must confess that seeing my daughter’s joy when she saw herself in the princess dress made me forget everything, and I would have continued searching the entire world to get her that costume. She was a small and beautiful little princess. When we got to my car and I was settling her into her car seat, I saw that the phone Aurora had been holding at the clinic was on the seat. There were only two possibilities.

“Alba, is this phone yours?” I asked, showing it to her.

“No, Mr. Cavaller.” She observed it carefully. “Oh my God! That phone belongs to Dr. Dulcet! Did Aurora bring it?” she asked, her face marked with concern.

“It appears so. Don’t worry, tomorrow I’ll send one of my employees to take it to the clinic and leave it for them to return to her.”

I got into the car and, on the way to my house, Aurora kept mentioning her name and Alba told her that in the coming days she would take her to visit the doctor. The fact that my daughter wanted to see her didn’t make me feel good; we didn’t know anything about that woman’s life, she was young, but perhaps she was married and might even be a mother. I didn’t want Aurora to become attached to any woman; I didn’t want her to suffer when that woman eventually cast her aside.

“Alba, if Aurora doesn’t mention it again, I’d prefer you not take her to see Dr. Dulcet. She has her doctor, and that’s Miranda Nur.”

“Yes, sir, whatever you say,” she paused for a few seconds and then added, “Although let me tell you that this doctor was very warm and examined her very thoroughly. I asked for her office phone number to call her in case...”

“Alba, I want Aurora to continue being treated by Dr. Nur,” I stated firmly, without giving any further explanations.
