A growl vibrated from his chest.

Soon, their mate would be home.

The actions of the other alpha, this Dreven, was a direct act of war, and Gavin would be willing to risk it all to get the one person back who gave him a reason to live.

He turned on his heel and faced his men. The air grew tense while they waited for his orders. Gavin’s gaze landed on Solon. His lips curled up into a sneer. His feet moved of their own accord, carrying him over to the enforcer swiftly. He shot his hand out and gripped Solon’s neck.

“Alpha!” Solon gasped, his hands clawing at Gavin’s.

Gavin tightened his grip on his neck. His fingernails shifted to his claws and dug in. Blood trickled around Gavin’s hand.

“You were to protect her!” he snapped, digging his claws deeper into the throat of his trusted enforcer. Blood ran down his arm as he lifted Solon in the air. His beast wanted the wolf to pay for their mate being taken. “This is the second time you have fucked up.”

Before it was the lone wolf after Damara during the pack run. Solon, as the lead enforcer, was in charge of securing the pack. This time, it had been his job to stay by Damara’s side and protect her. Under his watch, she had been taken.

He had let his alpha down.

Twice.

This was unacceptable for the head of the enforcers to fail his alpha.

Spencer and the other enforcers stood by, unwilling to intervene. They shifted uneasily with Gavin’s waves flowing through the air. Gavin, as the alpha of the pack, was in his rightful place to punish an enforcer who had slacked in his duties.

“I’m sorry,” Solon choked out, his face darkening.

Gavin threw him to the ground, unwilling to take his life. Damara’s kidnapping didn’t warrant a death sentence, but Solon would have to pay for his failure.

“Alpha, please. Let me make it up to you.”

Gavin scented the unease and slight fear from the men around him. Solon’s gasps were the only sounds for miles around them.

“Because Damara has been taken, I will be a lenient alpha. You will get one last chance to prove to me that you are able to keep the role of head enforcer.” Gavin stood before Solon, meeting the enforcer’s gaze. He wanted to ensure the enforcer knew he meant business. Gavin had to pull back on his animal. His beast wanted to punish the wolf who stood facing them. But they didn’t have time. They had to get to Damara before Dreven could get her back to their lands in California.

“Yes, sir. I will not fail you this time,” Solon promised, standing from the ground. Trails of blood slid down his neck from Gavin’s claw marks.

“See that you don’t. Or I will fill your position with someone who is worthy of it.” Gavin’s gaze roamed that of his enforcers.

Kent, Evan, Ridley, and Fynn all stood around watching the exchange. His men were good and had never failed him before.

“What are we to do?” Spencer asked. His beta came to stand by him.

Gavin turned his gaze to the direction the truck had taken to get toward the closest road. The tire tracks were embedded in the ground and would disappear once they hit the pavement.

“We’re going after her,” he announced. There was no way in hell he was just going to let Dreven come and steal her back. Damara was his mate, and he’d be damned if someone else claimed her. “We’re going to track them down and get your alpha’s mate back.”

Growls sounded from his men.

“They can’t be that far away,” Spencer said, running his hand along his jawline. “I’ll call the local police and have them keep their eyes out for a suspicious truck. This town is small enough, that should be the only thing they’ll need to know.”

Gavin nodded and turned back to his enforcers. They all straightened with determination radiating from their eyes.

“The Californian alpha thinks he can take my mate. You are to do whatever you need to do to track them down, but leave the alpha to me. He will die by my hand.”

“Yes, sir,” their voices echoed.

They all shifted to their animals. The five enforcers waited for Gavin’s or Spencer’s command.

“Go. Hunt,” he growled, feeling his beast tear at his insides, demanding to be let out.
