“How are you?”

“I’m good. I’m great, actually. Even better now that I know about you two.”

“I hear congratulations are in order. You’re engaged.”

He blushes. “I am. Kensington is my fiancée.”

“Is she here?” I don’t see anyone other than Sebastian in the room.

“She’s coming tomorrow. Against my wishes,” he adds.

“Oh.” I assume he wants her away because it’s safer. “I can’t wait to meet her.”

“You’ll like her. She’s incredible. She owns me.”

“Aw.” I glance at Sebastian, thinking the same thing. His expression shows no emotion as he studies me interacting with Nathan. “It sounds like a lot has changed since I last saw you.”

“For you guys, too.” He gestures to Sebastian, that brilliant smile of his wide one moment and gone the next. “I mean…before this. But this, too.”

I give him a sympathetic smile, knowing he’s embarrassed by what he said, and because I hate to see Nathan or anyone uncomfortable, I add, “It’s a complicated situation.”

He rubs his hands together and turns toward the couch. “Should we sit?”

“Yeah.” I follow him to the couch but pause and eye Sebastian. “Have you two caught up enough? If not, I can find something else to do.”

His brows lower. “You would do that?”

“Sure.” I shrug. “I don’t want to impose if you’re still explaining things to Nathan.” I give Nathan a sideways glance where he sits and grins, even as the corners of my mouth fight a frown.

“We haven’t fully gotten into it yet,” Sebastian says.

I figured as much. Even though they texted prior to meeting here, Sebastian would never divulge anything of importance over the phone.

I nod. “I’ll leave you two be, then.”

“Thank you,” Sebastian replies, still sounding surprised by my consideration.

Alone again. I bounce my hands off my thighs as I meander toward the hallway. When I turn the corner, I pause behind the wall and listen, even though my insides tell me to keep walking. Nothing good comes from eavesdropping.

“How did I go from Marina to her?” Sebastian asks, his voice filled with wonder rather than the disappointment I expected to hear.

Nathanlets out a shocked sounding laugh. “Do you not remember anything about her at all?”

“Nope. She’s a stranger.”

A flaming arrow to my heart would hurt less.

“She’s a sexy stranger, though, right?” Nathan teases, that fun-loving attitude of his still intact. “Besides, you hated Marina, or do you not remember that, either?”

“I remember wanting nothing to do with her and not knowing how to proceed.”

“Do you remember Ainsley’s friend Harper?” Nathan asks, to my surprise.

“Harper? No.”

“Do you remember the car accident?”

“Not at all.”
