There was a long pause.

“What are you talking about?” Ram asked calmly.

Jerking to a stop, I pounded my fist on the desk. “Sin’s place, along with her collection, was trashed.”

“What? Shit. Hold on. Let me get Max.”

There was another long pause.

“I have Max here, and you’re on speaker.”

“What’s the big emergency?” Max asked.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” I barked. “I walked into her damn townhouse to find the whole place ripped to shreds. It was horrific. How could you let this happen?”

“We didn’t let shit happen. In fact, we followed your instructions to a T,” Max hissed. “You said hands off until we saw that damn ledger in Jeff’s hand, and that was exactly what we did. Now you want to blame us because your brilliant plan turned into a clusterfuck? Come on, Core. This is bullshit.”

My chest rose and fell with rapid breaths. “No, what’s bullshit is I have to pick up the damn pieces because you and Rocco botched this job. Damn. I can’t even trust you two to handle a fucking simple task.” I knew my statement was irrational, but I didn’t give a shit. Someone had to answer for this debacle.

“Core!” Ram snapped. “Are you even listening to yourself? What the fuck did you think Jeff was going to do when he broke in? Pussyfoot around and gently sift through her shit while searching for the ledger?”

“It was a damn break-in. That means shit gets broken.” Max interrupted. “Did we think Jeff was going to fuck her place up? The answer is no. Obviously, you didn’t either. Not that you gave a shit. All you cared about was getting that damn ledger. So, guess what, bro? You have the ledger and Jeff, too.”

“Damn, you’re right.” I massaged the back of my neck. “We didn’t know this shit was going to go down like that.”

“And now that we have everything we need, what are your plans for Sin? Unless you’re falling for her,” Ram mused. “I hope not.” He snorted.

I stiffened. “I’ll be there in a few hours,” I gritted out before throwing my cell onto the desk. I strode out of the office and back upstairs into the bedroom.

Closing the door behind me, I stood there for a good two minutes, wondering what the hell was wrong with me. She was supposed to be a means to an end. Nothing more. No attachments.

Shit, I never want to let her go.

All I wanted to do was go to her, wrap my arms around her, and protect her from the world.

Sin stirred. Her eyelids fluttered open, revealing the startling beauty of her almond-shaped hazel eyes. “What’s wrong? You can’t sleep?” she mumbled.

“I just called my team. I thought it’d be better for my guys to start on the trail while it’s still fresh.”

Sin smiled softly. “Come here, Core.” She beckoned me with a little finger.

There were so many sides to Sin—sexy, rebellious, sassy, smart, vulnerable—and I wanted them all.

Marching over to the bed, I slipped between the sheets.

“You smell so good,” she whispered before grabbing my hips.

Leaning in, she licked my lips and then plunged into my mouth with a persistent tongue. Her tongue slid around the tip of mine and then rubbed under it. I thought about her doing that to my cock, and I almost exploded.

Dammit!

I couldn’t hold back any longer, not with her soft and pliant in my arms.

Groaning, I plundered, possessed, and nipped at her full lips before flipping her onto her back. I straddled her, one knee on each side of her waist. She gazed up at me, her eyes dilated. Her sensuous mouth curved into a smile.

I leaned down, biting her bottom lip. “I can’t get enough of you.”

She trailed her fingers across my chest. “I’m yours, Core. Fuck me.”
