“Maybe.” My throat closed up. “But sometimes, the truth isn’t so simple.”
“We all have secrets we don’t want to talk about because it hurts too much.”
Drawing a breath, I released it before speaking, “Some more than others.”
Her tongue darted out to touch her lips. “Someday, Core . . . we’ll be able to let the demons go.” Arching forward, she brushed her lips against mine before sliding under the sheets, closing her eyes.
I tucked them tightly around her soft, warm body. “Sleep tight, darling. I’ll be back in a couple hours.”
Her eyes snapped open. “Don’t go.” Her voice wavered.
Threading a hand through her hair, I murmured, “Okay, darling, I’ll stay.”
“Thank you.”
I watched her nuzzle the pillow. Her eyelids drifted closed, and she promptly fell asleep. The bed dipped when I stood up. I headed to the bathroom, closing the door behind me. I groaned at the chaotic scene of Sin’s personal items sprinkled around my master en-suite bath—bottles of body wash and lotion, her dress hanging next to her towel, her toothbrush next to mine. It reminded me of a happier time in my life with Maya. She had been my balance, my rock. I was willing to give up my criminal empire for her and my unborn child. One tragic moment and she’d been taken away, leaving me emotionally void. No woman could replace Maya in my heart. Until now.
A smirk rolled across my face.Life is full of compromises, I thought.
Then it dawned on me, the number of compromises I would be more than willing to make for this woman. Just the thought of her lying in my bed with those fucking barely there boy-cut panties displaying her luscious ass and her tight T-shirt outlining her voluptuous globes made my flesh go rock hard.
Turning on the shower, I adjusted the temperature to cold before stepping beneath the rain shower head, hoping the frigid water would get rid of my aching arousal. The jets beat against my body, but I was still at half-mast. As I soaped myself up, my hand lingered on my erection. I needed to stroke one out, or I’d end up turning her over and fucking the shit out of her.
Taking myself in my hand, I closed my eyes and tugged my cock. I thought about the taste of Sin’s glistening sweet slit, my tongue licking her hard little nub, her hands tightly clutching my head against her weeping womanhood . . .
“Holy fuck,” I hissed. I threw my head back, groaning as I ejaculated.
Quickly, I washed my body and hair, rinsing away the shampoo and soap. Snatching one of my luxurious towels, I dried myself off before putting on my lounge pants.
I left the bathroom to find Sin curled up in the middle of my king-size bed. She was snoring lightly. Turning out the light, I sat on the edge and the bed dipped. Then I lifted the covers and slid in beside her. As I edged my body closer, she mumbled something incoherent while inching her back until it fit snugly against my chest. I put my arm around her waist, and my legs pushed against the backs of her thighs, my nose nuzzling the back of her neck. I slowly dozed off. At that moment, I knew I had everything—Sin and Bigsby—and surprisingly, the anger was finally gone.
And one woman had unknowingly made it all happen—Sin.
CHAPTER 10
Core
My phone vibrated on the nightstand, and I jerked straight up in bed. I grabbed it quickly, not wanting to wake Sin. The display told me it was Ram.
“Where the hell are you?”
Leave it to Ram not to beat around the damn bush.
“We’ve been waiting at the warehouse for hours.”
Shit.I’d planned to call him, but I’d fallen asleep.
Now totally alert, I swung my legs over the bed and stood up. “Ram, give me a minute. I’m going down to my office.”
Turning, I examined a fast-asleep Sin. I couldn’t believe how peaceful and relaxed she appeared to be.
“Your office? Why can’t you talk . . . ?” Ram’s voice trailed off. “Oh, fuck no. Don’t tell me she’s there, bro.”
Silently padding out of my bedroom and closing the door behind me, I strode downstairs. I rubbed my forehead. “Of course she’s here. I couldn’t leave her in that fucked-up mess.” Stepping into my soundproofed office, I slammed the door behind me.
“What mess?” Ram asked.
I paced back and forth. “Jeff’s mess,” I growled. My hand tightened on the phone. “What the hell, Ram? Why didn’t Max and Rocco stop him?”
