“Take your time, baby. We got all night.”
“Will you two knock it off?” Lake scolds, rolling his eyes in mock disgust.
“Oh, like you have any room to talk,” I throw back, making him snort as our father takes the podium in the center of the square.
“Good evening,” he says, his presence already captivating the crowd. “It’s been an honor for my family to manage the Wintervale Tree Farm. We’ve worked tirelessly to give you the best experience year after year, something we wouldn’t be able to do without your love and support.” Clearing his throat, he pauses, making eye contact with each of us before taking our mother’s hand. “This fall, we purchased the land that has been our pride and joy year after year, so without further ado, I’m honored to announce that the Sterling Family Tree Farm is officially open for business.”
The crowd erupts with a deafening mix of clapping and cheers, the support of our community something that has always meant so much to our family.
And now it’s official.
It’s a night to remember and one that has my heart damn near bursting out of my chest because what could be better than this?
“I love you.” The words are quiet as Adrian wraps his arms around my waist, his chin resting on my shoulder as he hugs me from behind.
This is better.
“I love us.”
“I couldn’t agree more.”
