“Great minds think alike. Can we share the Supreme Fajitas?” The selection included a mix of beef, chicken and shrimp. “And I’m getting the guacamole and chips. They make it tableside.” Mia rubbed her hands together with glee. A server came to take their order and returned shortly with the drinks. She laughed softly at the stunned look on Dwight’s face when he saw the sixty-four ounce drinks. “I guess I didn’t mention the size.”
“No you didn’t,” he said, picking it up and taking a sip. “Oh, this is good.”
Mia sipped her own and grinned. “I know, right. Here, try mine.”
He tasted it and nodded. “That’s good, too. We might have to figure out a way to come back here again before we leave.”
“You ain’t said nothing but a word. However, I might have to actually join you in that workout if we did.” She did a mock shudder and they both laughed.
Dwight reached for her hand. “I know the perfect workout we can do together.” Holding her gaze, he placed a lingering kiss on her palm. “I guarantee we’ll burn lots of calories.”
She tried to look away, but couldn’t. Her heart rate kicked up and a soft pulsing began at her center.
“Hola.”
The server placed a tray next to their table, causing Mia to startle. She snatched her hand back and returned the greeting in Spanish. Even after all the years of coming with her parents and the three years she’d studied the language in high school, “hello,” a few other basic words and the chorus to the Spanish version of her favorite Marc Anthony song,I Need to Know, were the extent of her vocabulary. She watched as he mashed the avocado and added finely diced tomatoes, cilantro, red onion, a little bit of jalapeno, lime juice and salt. When she glanced over at Dwight, his eyes were waiting and she had no problem seeing the desire blazing in their dark depths. Grabbing up her glass, she took a long draw of her drink and hoped it would cool her off.
Finished, the server placed the bowl of guacamole, along with one filled with salsa and a basket of tortilla chips on the table. “Enjoy,” he said in his heavily accented English.
“Thank you.” Before the man left the table good, she reached for a chip, loaded it with the guac and stuffed it in her mouth. “Mmm.” Mia closed her eyes and savored the flavors bursting on her tongue.
“Baby, if you want to finish this meal, I’m going to need you to stop with the moans.”
Her eyes snapped open and she almost choked.
“Seriously.” Dwight leaned forward and said softly, “I want you more than you know right now and I’m hanging on by a thread.”
“I…um…sorry.” Mia braced her arms on the table and moved closer to his face. “Just so you know, I want you, too.”
“Mia—”
“I know, I know. Eating.” She dunked another chip and this time, made sure to keep her moans to herself. “You should try one. Oh, I didn’t think to ask if you like spicy foods before I had him add the jalapenos. My bad.”
“I don’t mind spicy foods,” he said, picking up a chip. “I’ve never been too fond of guacamole because every time I’ve had it, it tasted bland, like mashed avocados with a dash of lime.”
She smiled. “Then you’re in for a treat. Hurry up and try it. I promise it’ll taste good.”
“And if it doesn’t?”
“Then I’ll owe you whatever you want.” As soon as the words left her mouth, she wanted to call them back, especially when a wicked grin curved his lips. “And don’t try to lie to get your way,” she added.
Dwight chuckled. “It’s a thought.” He bit into the chip and moaned. “Okay, yeah. This is good,” he said as he shoved the remainder of the chip into his mouth and reached for another one.
“Mmm hmm, told you.” They munched on the chips, then devoured the fajitas. Mia ordered more guac and chips to go and was so full, she fell across the bed as soon as they got back to the room. “I think I ate too much,” she murmured. “You’re going to have to go to the gym alone.”
He let out a short bark of laughter. “I was going alone in the first place.”
“How long do your workouts usually last?”
“About an hour.”
“Can I follow you over in a little while?”
“Sure, sweetheart.” He leaned down and kissed her. “Should I look for you under the tree?”
“Yep. I just need fifteen minutes.” However, watching him change into his gym attire woke up a few parts of her.
Dwight finished tying his shoes and stood. “See you in a bit.”
