His hands grasped at my biceps as his body let me in, his hips bucking with every thrust forward. We moved in sync, in harmony with each other’s desires.

“More,” he said. “I want more of you.”

I chuckled. “I don’t have much more to give, love.” I was almost buried totally inside him.

Rhythe’s hips jerked, and I was buried to the hilt then. His eyes rolled back, and he let out a moan. “Yes. Yes!”

His fingers dug into my skin as I pulled out and back in, increasing in speed with each new thrust. After centuries, I’d found my home. Found my mate. The one made truly for me. The magnitude of it all washed over me and emotion clogged at my throat.

“I’m so happy to have found you, mate,” I said. “I’m never letting you go.”

Rhythe caressed my cheek. “That wasn’t even an option,” he said. “Now claim me. Leave your mark on me and cum so deep inside me that I’m filled with your cum for eternity.”

Oh fuck. My dragon liked that idea.

I buried my nose into his neck and licked over the area where my bite would go. Rhythe shuddered beneath me. His hips kept rhythm with my thrusts, and the two of us barreled closer to release.

When I knew he was close, I let my teeth sink into his flesh. He moaned loudly, and warm cum splashed between us. Myrelease came soon after, pumping inside him, and then my knot expanded, locking my seed in his body.

“Oh fuck!” Rhythe squirmed. His eyes rolled back and his shoulders arched. “Oh, I wasn’t ready for that,” he said.

“Are you hurt? Mate, are you okay?” I couldn’t move. My knot would lock us together for a while.

“Fantastic,” he said. “Holy hell, this is amazing. I’m going to need this every day.”

I chucked and rolled gently to the side so that I didn’t crush him with my weight. “Whatever you want, Rhythe. It is yours.”

“You. I just need you.”

Chapter 10

Rhythe

We were mated. It was still a lot to wrap my head around. The dragon I used to read about was now mine and mine alone. There were days I woke up unsure if it had all been a dream. But it hadn’t. Somehow this life I was living was real.

Now that it was official and enough time had passed for me to fully heal a few times over, it was also time for me to come out of hiding or hibernation or whatever we were considering the amount of time that I had spent locked up in Emmen’s house.Technically, it was the academy’s house, but for now, it was our home.

It was so weird to think that it wasn’t actually ours. It belonged to the clan and the academy. In so many ways it felt too over the top for such a position. But then again, I suppose dragons had a long history of being over the top. It was kind of our brand.

Lord Malric would be visiting tomorrow. I wasn’t exactly sure about the details of his arrival. I supposed that was a detail that I should figure out.

It was still surreal thattheLord Malric was going to be a guest in the same place I slept. How was this my life?

I was quickly realizing that being Emmen’s mate came with a lot of responsibilities. In many ways I was the BOGO employee. Not that I minded. I was proud to be by my mate’s side and honored to have a role that helped him in his position. Still, the very idea of them seemed daunting. I still wasn’t sure that I was worthy, but I needed to give it a shot.

Flying wasn’t something I’d done a lot of after the whole cliff incident. But given where I lived, it was a necessity, which was good. I needed the push.

I shifted to my dragon form and flew down to the main building, Talls Hall, where Emmen’s office was. It was also where my brother worked and his mate as well. Although his mate spent most of his time in the field practicing with his dragon flight team.

As sad as it was, I still didn’t fully understand what my twin did for work. And it wasn’t for lack of trying. He didn’t overly share, and when I pushed, he diverted like a boss. It was important, though, that much I knew.

It had been a few days since I had seen him. We, of course, talked every day, but since he had five dragonets to care for, as well as his full-time job, his free time was hard to come by. That and he was giving me private time with my mate. He didn’t say as much, but I knew him well.

I walked into the building. It was just as I remembered it, a mash-up between a business building, an academy building, and a public library. It would be so easy to get lost within these walls.

As much as I wanted to be on the ball, I very much wasn’t. I arrived without any sort of plan. Was I going to just go to Emmen’s office? What if he was busy? He didn’t have free time any more than Pip did.

I should’ve thought this through or at the very least asked Emmen’s advice.
