“Yeah, I don’t like the way she treats you,” he said with a serious expression.“Next time, just don’t talk to her at all.See how she likes that.”

It was nice to have something like an ally in her war against Terry.

“There, your hair looks gorgeous.”He finished up by separating one strand and draping it loosely down the side of her face.

“We should go see Gigi,” Hallie said, remembering she was going to do that after the rodeo. It wouldn’t be safe to go back to the rodeo grounds now anyway.“She lives around here.”

“Who’s Gigi?”

“Her real name is Rose, and she’s my grandma. But she hates being called grandma, so don’t ever call her that.”

“Understood.”

She didn’t think Luke would be very excited to meet her grandma, but he seemed up for it.Maybe the fight had changed something. He was acting more like a decent person, though it was probably still just an act.

Chapter 26: Auction Your Gigis

They arrived at a bungalownot far from the center of the small town where the rodeo was held.

It was a cute little stucco house with cacti and small shrubs in the front yard.Hallie’s heart always lifted at the sight.Gigi was probably her favorite family member even though she sometimes said some crazy things.

“Why doesn’t she live with you?”Luke asked as they got out of the car.

“She’s very independent,” Hallie said proudly.

She also liked the way Gigi wasn’t stooped over or stiff like many other grandmas. She was active and full of life.

Gigi opened the door, wearing a crisp shirt and fashionable beige trousers, as well as her usual smile.

“I thought you’d be at the rodeo all day,” she said, “but it’s lovely to see you, dear.Come on in.And this is your boyfriend I’ve heard so much about!Nice to meet you.”

“Charmed,” Luke said, kissing her hand in his usual suave and debonair way.

Hallie couldn’t believe this.Gigi actually giggled, her age-spotted cheeks going red.“Please, call me Rose.”

“Rose, you have a lovely house,” Luke stated as he took in the beige and white color scheme. It was fairly grandma-esque but very relaxing in its laid-back country style with comfortable couches and pillows.
