“Are they feeding you well over at the ranch?”Gigi asked Luke.

“Everything is deep-fried, even the vegetables,” he said, “I’m sure I’ll regret it later, but I love it.”

“What on earth happened to your face?”Gigi suddenly cried, pointing at Hallie’s bandage.

“Oh, that...We got into a bit of a scrape with some bull riders,” Hallie said.

“Are you all right?”Gigi asked, peering at her face.

“Yeah, I’m fine, don’t worry. It was over in seconds.”

“I hope you came to her rescue,” Gigi said, nudging Luke.

“It was more like Hallie came to my rescue,” he said.

“But then you pulled me out of the chaos,” Hallie added.

“Sounds like he’s a keeper,” Gigi said, “You’ve got to have a man you can trust to come to your rescue.I know you young folks might think it sounds old-fashioned, but it’s true. And it’s not always rescuing you from a scuffle, but maybe something as simple as buying you your favorite pastry when you’re feeling down.”

“Thanks for those words of wisdom, Gigi,” Hallie said, somewhat jokingly.

They had tea in the living room while Hallie talked about the upcoming charity event they were planning. She was pretty excited about it as it was going to benefit seniors all across the county.

“So I was wondering, Gigi, if you wanted to join?”she asked.

“You mean you want me to bid on old bachelors?”Gigi exclaimed, “No, I couldn’t!None of the old geezers around here are worth bidding on, except maybe Bob Masone.”

“Actually,” Hallie said, “we were thinking of putting you up for auction.”

“Me?!Oh, don’t be silly!”

“Why not, Gigi?”Hallie said, smiling, “You’re a catch!”

“Yeah, I agree,” Luke chimed in.“Anyone would be lucky to go on a date with you.”

“Well, I’ll think about it...”Gigi said.“Hallie dear, would you mind making another pot of tea for us?”

Hallie thought this was a pretty obvious ploy for Gigi to speak to Luke alone, but she went to the kitchen anyway.

She put on the kettle and then tried to listen in just outside the living room, putting her head against the door, but Gigi must have been speaking very softly because Hallie couldn’t hear anything. Finally, she gave up and returned to making tea.

Luke and Gigi were still conversing in soft voices, and then Luke looked up at her with a slightly mischievous smile as she came in.

They finally left Gigi’s house after several cups of tea and lots of fun conversation.

“What did you two talk about when I wasn’t there?”Hallie asked as soon as the door closed and they were out in the front yard again.

“Just a little secret between Gigi and me,” Luke replied with a mysterious smile.

“Come on, that’s not fair.”

“Maybe one day I’ll tell you, but for now I have to keep it a secret.”

“Ugh!Fine.”Hallie realized this was the best answer she was going to get at the moment.“Let’s get back.My parents will be worried. They’ll have heard about the fight by now.”
