He growled at her with a playful nip at her lips. “I think he wants you to take this seriously, Cam.”
“I am, but I also have complete faith in your ability to keep me safe along with him.” She winked. “Also, in me being a badass bitch.”
I shook my head, humored at her words. “You are.”
“We’re good, Noah. Let’s lock up and head next door. I want to check on Nylah.”
I picked up her bag and walked her out, locking up the house as we joined Rael. The three of us crossed the lawn and entered through my brother’s front door. Cam left my side to hug Nylah, and the two women left us standing in the living room as they went into the kitchen.
“Did they find him?” I asked, turning to Grim.
“Not yet, but it’s only a matter of time.”
I had to agree with him. No one eluded a Reaper for long.
“TELL ME YOU’VE GOThim,” I growled into the phone as Grim turned toward me, awaiting my response.
“He’s in the fucking dungeon right now, Rael, ready for a little rehab,” Wraith confirmed.
“He’s at The Crossroads,” I informed Grim.
“Tell Wraith to break him in,” Grim growled, opening the door to leave. “I’ll send in Diablo, Bones, and Shadow.”
“I’m staying,” Chrome announced. “Cam needs me. I don’t want this to become a relapse for her. If it does, I’ve got to be by her side.”
Grim nodded. “I get it, Chrome.” He ticked his chin toward me. “You comin’?”
Of course. “Let me tell Nylah. I’ll meet you out front.”
He strode across the porch and descended the stairs, heading toward the club members keeping watch outside and around the perimeter of my house.
I walked into the kitchen, not surprised to find Nylah and Cam seated at the table, drinking hot tea, and sharing a snack. It was good that they were here together and for each other. They could keep each other company and provide a distraction from the chaos earlier.
If you could fucking call it chaos.
I didn’t dwell on it because I’d just get pissed, and I wanted to handle shit the right way. Staying calm, I approached my ol’ lady, bending down to kiss her sweet lips before I told her I was leaving. “Need to handle this shit, kitten. We’ve got a little girl coming in a few weeks.”
She agreed, pecking me on the mouth. “Take care of it, Rael. I have a feeling she’s going to make an appearance sooner than we think, and I’ll need you.”
I had to be here because I was fucking gone the last time she went into labor. If it happened a second time, I’d be pissed. Nylah would cut off my balls. It wasn’t an ideal situation.
“You think she’ll come early?”
“Maybe. She’s running out of room in there,” she joked. Rubbing her stretched stomach.
“Want me to help it along later?” I asked, keeping my voice low.
“After all that’s happened, I could use time alone with you to take my mind off it all.”
“Done, my love. I’ll have you seeing stars in the best way.”
She smiled, and I nearly grinned back until I noticed that it didn’t extend to her eyes. “Don’t be gone too long.”
“Define too long. I don’t want you to feel stressed.” Shit. I needed to talk to the fucker who dared to come to my house personally, but not at the expense of my ol’ lady. “I’ll stay and let Grim handle it if you prefer.”
She shook her head.
Thank fuck.
