“I want you,” I sniffled. When did I become such an emotional mess? “I want you as my alpha. I want to raise our baby with you.”
He ran his fingers through my hair, then took a deep breath. “I want you too, but…”
This was it, he was going to reject me.
“We need to work on us,” he finished.
“What?”
“I want it too. I want a life with you. But I can’t take another heartbreak. You hurt me Theo. You hurt me when you blocked me, and even more when I realized you were pregnant with my baby and you hadn’t told me.”
“I’m sorry.”
“I know,” he replied, fingernails running lightly along my scalp. “But as much as I want to, I don’t think it’s wise to jump right to our happy ending.”
I nodded against him.
“Let’s do things right,” he said. “Dates, getting to know each other properly, and rebuilding trust.”
“Ok…”
He leaned over and kissed my hair. “Finish eating while I clean up.”
I nodded and turned back to my food while he removed his plate from the table and started washing dishes. Soon all that remained was what I was using.
Finally I finished eating, and he whisked my dishes away to wash. A moment later he took his seat at the table again.
“Are you free for dinner tonight?” Jordan asked.
I nodded. “Yeah.”
“Can I pick you up at seven?”
“Mm-hmm.”
He scooted closer, tipped up my chin and kissed me softly. “I’ll see you then.”
I touched my lips and nodded. “I’ll see you then.”
Then he turned and walked out of my apartment.
