Chapter 1 - Theo

 ~August~

Iglared at the sexy alpha sitting across the table from me, who was laughing as if I’d said something absurd.

 “What’s so funny?” I demanded.

“I’m just trying to figure out why we need to coordinate the bachelor parties,” he replied, still laughing.

“Because Harris Cove isn’t so big that they won’t run into each other if we don’t know who plans to be at which bar when,” I snapped.

Somehow my response only made him laugh harder, and if I wasn’t so pissed off about it I would have actually enjoyed the sound.

Jordan Andrews was the kind of alpha most omegas dreamed about: large and strong enough to wrap a man comfortably in his arms, without being obnoxiously muscled. His bright blue eyes danced with mirth, and his messy brown hair begged for me to run my fingers through it before using it as leverage to bring him in for a kiss.

I wanted to kiss him too, which only made it worse. As far as I was concerned, he was off-limits. We’d end up spending too much time together in the future for it not to be awkward if things went sideways.

My best friend—Cody—couldn’t marry his best friend—Wes—fast enough. Then he could go back to his home and I’d mostly have to deal with him in my fantasies.

He finally stopped laughing enough to speak again. “You do know that you can choose almost anywhere in the world to party, don’t you? Wes’s dad owns a private plane manufacturing company and is covering all travel costs.”

“That’s great for you,” I snarked. “But most of us on Cody’s side have to actually work and getting a full weekend is impossible. Hell, the whole shortened timeline means that a few are having to balance either the party or the wedding day itself.”

“You could at least consider Vegas,” he replied. “It’s a short flight, and you should be able to get a party suite.”

I glared at him. “Do you really see Cody as the type to enjoy a party in Vegas?”

 Jordan deflated. “No… no I don’t.”

I ran my fingers through my hair. Cody had opened up a lot more about his personal trauma since mating Wes, but it still stung that my best friend had kept so much from me. Though, it made sense too. Sometimes a person just doesn’t want to talk about such things.

Regardless, Cody was a man who’d never expected or wanted a mate. While he was happy now, a bachelor party filled with stripping alphas and getting drunk wasn’t his style. Even getting him to bar hop around Harris Cove would have been a stretch.

Jordan sat back in his chair. “If I’d come to you six months ago and asked you to describe Cody’s perfect bachelor party, with money not being an issue, what would you have come up with?”

I thought about it for a moment. “Honestly? Probably a weekend in San Francisco, start with an art museum or two, then do a Napa Valley wine tour.”

“Great!” Jordan replied, beaming at me. “Find out when everybody can get time, and we’ll schedule it. Well… we might need to find an alternative to the wine tour, since Cody’s pregnant.”

 “Wait! What?”

“I asked you to pick something with money not being an issue. Well… money isn’t an issue. If that’s the kind of thing you think Cody would enjoy, then you can make it happen. We can even get theater tickets if you think that would be a good replacement for the wine tour.”

Of course it would be a good replacement. Cody would love it, and I hated that I hadn’t thought of it first.

Damn billionaires. Jordan probably thought the idea was quaint.

I had no idea how Cody was going to adapt. Sure we’d joked around in college about winning the lottery and being suddenly wealthy. But now he was mated to a man who wasn't just rich, but obscenely so.

It was definitely a source of culture shock for hard-working men like us, who had dreamed of eventually making enough money to buy our own homes and afford new cars rather than used.

Now Cody had access to multiple private planes whenever he wanted them, something which he couldn’t quite believe.

Neither could I. Who’d have thought mild-mannered but grumpy Cody had a fated mate who was a billionaire? Still, he was my best friend and I couldn’t be happier for him.

Was I jealous? Of course, but not about the money. It was the way Wes looked at him, as if he’d hung the moon and the stars. It was the little touches, so full of love that it made my heart ache. Nobody would ever guess how rocky their relationship had started out by the way they acted.

Of our little friend group, everybody had always assumed I’d be the first to find a mate. Cody had never really tried, and Corey was content to let an alpha come to him. Meanwhile, I’d been out there actively searching for Mr. Right, and had only encountered a bunch of men who’d seemed to be the real deal at first, until it came time to actually get serious.
