“I didn’t realize the Evans’ sold,” I replied.

He laughed again. “They didn’t. Jessalynn is a friend. She’s coming out on vacation next week and I was going to spend some time with her. I’m just early.”

I remembered Jessalynn from my teen years, when our families would often end up vacationing at the same time over the summer, and I was glad my omega had such a good person as his friend.

I kissed him one more time, knowing that if I lingered I wouldn’t be able to resist dragging him to bed. “I’ll see you at seven.”

“Seven,” he echoed with a nod.

Then I tore myself from my omega’s arms to go make dinner reservations.

Chapter 9 - Zaya

I met my mate!!!!I texted Jessalynn.

I thought you were running away from that!she sent back.

I laughed and typed my reply.I was running from mating meetings my parents forced on me, not from the idea of mating.

I sent it, paused, then composed a followup text.I was taking photos on the beach, but couldn’t get my tripod angle right. He offered to help. We took some photos, then when I walked back… Jess… it was incredible. As soon as I smelled him I knew. There was my alpha.

Awww!came the reply.Have you told your parents yet?

I grinned as I took a seat on the patio. Not yet. You’re the first to know. I’ll post about it, and tell them, once he’s bonded me.

You mean you haven’t yet?she shot back immediately.I would have thought you’d have wanted a knot immediately.

I laughed, catching the momentary attention of another man walking along the beach.Oh, I want it, and by the looks of things, so did he. But he’s being a gentleman and taking me to dinner first.

She sent a laughing emoji as the reply.

You might laugh about the delay now, but I’m going to be the one fueled up and ready to go.

There was a moment pause, then,You know, you’re right. Got it. Feed my omega first, whenever I find them.

I laughed again.Good luck. Meanwhile, I’m off to go prep for my date.

Have fun, and Zaya… Congrats.

I smiled at my phone.Thanks.

Go get dinner, and that dick.

I laughed again and headed into the house. She had a point. The sooner I was ready, the sooner I’d be in bed with my alpha.

“Nice car,” I said as Cadence held open the door of the convertible.

He chuckled. “It’s my parents’, but we keep it here so we don’t have to use a car service when we visit.”

“You don’t live here full time?”

He shook his head. “I was thinking of moving here, since we have the house anyway. But technically I still live in Chicago.”

I laughed. “Small world. My parents live in Chicago and I grew up there.”

“You don’t live there now?”
