Papa huffed, but said nothing as a driver stepped out of a black sedan and opened the doors for us. I climbed in and saw dad already in the car.

As soon as we got in, papa grabbed a folder and handed it to me. “There’s the rest of the provided information.”

I accepted the folder, but kept it closed on my lap.

“Aren’t you going to look?”

I shook my head. “You’ve given me enough to start, and I think I prefer to learn more from him, rather than from a paper profile.”

Papa sighed. “Your decision.”

I looked out the window at the skyscrapers as we drove along the lake. “Where are we headed?” I asked, realizing that we were in more of a residential area.

“Their home. They decided on the location of the meeting,” dad stated.

“Thanks.”

“Mmhmm.”

The car came to a stop in front of an immaculate Gold Coast home, and the driver let us all out. Then, before we’d even had a chance to ring the bell, a man in a suit opened the front door.

“Good afternoon Misters Jones,” the man said. “I’m the house manager, Gerald. If you’ll allow me to escort you to the library, Misters Starling will be right with you.”

The greeting was polite and professional, but I noticed a strained tone to it that told me there was a problem.

Dad and papa seemed to catch it too, sharing a glance before nodding and stepping into the foyer.

The house was as impressive inside as it was outside, but there was a tension to the atmosphere.

We were seated in the library, with Gerald off to get drinks as we settled in.

“Of all the irresponsible…” a man shouted.

A handsome omega stormed in, followed by anupset-lookingalpha.

The omega stopped and took a deep breath. “Apologies for your troubles Misters Jones,” he stated. “Apparently my son has decided to pull a disappearing act.”

Dad frowned. “And you couldn’t let us know before our meeting?”

The alpha of the pair sighed. “We only realized it ourselves just before your arrival. Isaiah had gone to brunch with a friend, and his brother Nate accompanied him to ensure his return. As of an hour ago he was still here, supposedly getting ready when I checked in on him.”

“Might he still be in the house?” papa asked.

“Unfortunately not,” the alpha replied. “We just received a text from him informing us that he was on a plane out of the city.”

Papa growled. “You do realize that this effectively removes your son from consideration, don’t you?”

The omega Starling sighed. “We do, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.”

Dad and papa stood, and I quickly followed suit.

“If we have no further business,” dad said. “Then we’ll take our leave.”

“Of course,” the alpha Starling replied. “And we apologize once again.”

Dad nodded, then we followed the Starlings’ house manager back to the front door.

“Well that was a waste of time,” dad growled as soon as we were safely back in the car and headed back to my condo.
