“I can’t believe we’re about to meet our babies.”
He chuckled. “One for each of us.”
I grinned. “Yeah.”
We still had to take final tests once the babies were born, but a prenatal blood test indicated that both mine and Nate’s DNA were present, which was a good indication that one was mine and the other his.
To me, it was perfect.
Even better, was that, so far at least, the treatment seemed to be working for Rick as well. His hormone imbalance seemed to stabilize within weeks of his heat, and we all had high hopes that it would continue to correct itself after.
And if not, well, we all wanted more babies anyway.
I heard a moan from the couch, and looked over to see Rick blinking blearily.
“Ty?”
I chuckled and unwound myself from Nate’s arms to go sit next to our omega. “Hey there, sorry I’m late,” I murmured, kissing him gently, and taking the opportunity to run my hand over his pregnant belly.
He shook his head and leaned against me. “You had to work late. It happens.”
One of the babies kicked my hand, making me laugh. “Are they fighting for room in there?”
Rick nodded. “Yeah. I’m thinking it’ll happen on my due date.”
“Oh?” I asked. “Any reason?”
He shook his head. “Just a feeling.”
I smiled and kissed his hair. “Want me to help you to bed? I won’t be long now. I’ll just reheat some dinner and join both of you.”
“No. I’ll wait,” he mumbled.
I laughed. “Ok.”
I got Rick settled on some pillows instead of my chest, then headed to the kitchen to reheat the leftovers from dinner. A moment later Nate joined me.
“Is our surprise ready?” I asked.
Nate wrapped his arms around my waist and kissed my neck. “They arrived a few hours ago. I got a text when they checked in.”
I turned. “You don’t think this will be too much for him, or them, do you?”
Nate shook his head. “When I called them, they thought it was a wonderful idea. Remember, he’s still like a son to them.”
“Ok.”
Inviting Brian’s parents to meet the babies seemed like a risky step at first, but after we’d watched Rick finally talk to people who’d known him since he moved to Mountain Springs, and tell them the truth of what happened, we realized that he was starting to get some closure. Admitting how much the loss, and the cruelty of the severed bond, affected him seemed to help him heal.
It made sense that his mate’s parents would need that as well, to see that something good had come out of Rick’s survival.
I pulled the warm plate from the microwave and carried it back to the living room so that I could eat, and allow Rick to steal bites as he needed.
Now I just had to hope that the babies wanted to come out in time, and that seeing the babies brought everybody the closure they needed.

Rick was off by one day, and went into labor the day after his due date.
