Of course half the hospital staff wanted to seem to try to sneak a peek at the room in hopes of being among the first to see the new additions to the family. The others asked what Nate and I were doing there when we were supposed to be on leave.
Walking into the delivery room with Rick and Nate was a dream come true. I was finally going to meet our babies after so many years of heartbreak. Even the threats of him chopping off our dicks at the knot was something that brought a tear to my eyes.
We were there, it was happening. Our family was finally growing like I’d wanted for so long.
“Here you go, dad.”
I blinked as a nurse placed a swaddled bundle in my arms.
Somehow I’d been so focused on Rick and Nate, that I hadn’t actually registered that the first of our babies had been born.
“You get to cut the cord on the next one,” Nate said, grinning like a fool at me. “They asked you, but you were off in la la land.”
I blinked then chuckled.
Finally I looked down at the warm bundle in my arms. He was beautiful, with the squished face of a newborn. But I could already see that he had Nate’s nose, and Rick’s soft brown hair.
A wet spot appeared on the blanket. I stared at it for a minute before I realized I was crying.
“You ok?” Nate asked.
I nodded. “He’s beautiful.”
Nate wrapped his arm around me. “Yes, he is.”
I shifted and handed our first baby boy to Nate, then wiped my tears and leaned over the bed to kiss Rick’s forehead. “He’s perfect Rick.”
Rick gave me a tired smile, then groaned as another contraction hit him. “I think it’s time for number two.”
Nate handed off the baby to a nurse, and we flanked Rick’s bed again, each of us taking a hand as he screamed through the pain.
This time I caught the wail as it filled the delivery room, watched as the doctor held up our second son, and as a nurse took him and placed him on Rick’s chest.
My hands shook as I cut the cord.
When I held our second baby for the first time I knew that he was mine. Mine, and Nate’s, and Rick’s.

Rick was dozing in his hospital room while Nate and I were barely awake in a couple of chairs by the window.
“Do you know what today is?” Nate asked.
“The third best day of my life?” I asked. “Right behind marrying you, and Rick allowing us to court him.”
Nate chuckled and shook his head. “It’s one year since we got the news that we’d been passed over for adoption again. One year ago tonight, I asked you in bed if we wanted to try for a surrogate instead,”
I gaped. “Has it really been a full year?”
Nate nodded. “It has, and an amazing year at that.”
I glanced over at our sleeping omega, and nodded.
A soft knock came from the door, and I looked up to see a couple of people I’d only seen photos of.
“Come in,” Nate said.
“Are you sure it’s ok,” Eleanor, Brian’s mother asked.
