I gasp. "Is he safe?"

"Of course not! He's being tortured." Anil'ha grunts angrily. Then he looks at me seriously and says, "I'm sorry Emma."

A tear rolls down my face. I try to hide it behind my hand.

Kallena takes my arm gently and squeezes it reassuringly. "Don't worry, we'll save him."

Anil'ha shakes his head. "That won't be possible."

I frown deeply. How could he say such a thing?

His gaze moves between us as if trying to read our faces. After a while, he continues speaking. "Refuse to come with me and you’ll never see him again alive."

My heart drops into my stomach. I shake my head vigorously. "No, I refuse to go with you.”

The alien male glares at me. "Then you're choosing death."

“Grab them and take them to the ship,” Anil’ha orders two aliens.

They grab both Kallena and me by our arms. They pull us along like rag dolls. It hurts. We struggle but they hold firm.

As soon as we reach the ship, they shove me inside one of the pods and strap me in place.

It's dark and small. There is no room for movement. I sit there, terrified and confused. I hear strange noises outside.

After a few minutes, something slams hard onto the front of the pod. It shatters my eardrums and sends pain shooting through my entire body. I scream.

Suddenly, the door opens and another alien enters the pod. He grabs me roughly by my shoulders and drags me out of the pod.

He pushes me against a wall and presses his knee painfully into my back.

“ Anil’ha wants to see you. Come!” He commands harshly.

I obey him and follow him. I walk unsteadily towards a room where Anil'ha sits on a chair. He stares at me coldly.

He doesn't speak until I stop a few feet away from him.

"You disobeyed me. You chose to stay instead of following me," he scoffs.

I stare at the floor sadly. "I didn't want to leave Kallena or the villagers.”

“You fool. You didn’t want to leave Dhakar,” he shouts.

I feel tears roll down my cheeks. "Yes, I did!"

He laughs bitterly. "Your life will end tonight. That's what happens to humans who defy me."

"Please don't do this. Please let me explain. I'm sorry I refused to go with you."

He stands up abruptly and walks around me. When he stops next to me, he puts his hands on either side of my head and leans over. His hot breath brushes my cheek.

"You have nothing more to say?" he asks quietly.

Tears stream down my face. "No."

He kisses me lightly on the lips. A wave of disgust hits me instantly and then a burning sensation spreads throughout my whole body.

I try to push him off but he holds tight to my jaw. He sucks on my lower lip and bites it softly. Pain shoots through my mouth and neck.
