Iwoke up in a great mood, had some orgasms, just won a soccer championship. Everything is pretty fucking great. Until my mom showed up with Colin’s dad to ruin it all. We haven’t heard from them since we walked out of their house, and now they just show up here.
“What do you want?” I ask, wanting to get this over with.
“Mayson,” my mom gasps in shock.
“What? You haven’t talked tried to reach out, and now you just show up here? It must be for a good reason.”
“Mayson, what is going on with you?” She places her hand on her chest, and I’m pretty sure she would clutch her pearls if she was wearing any right now.
“What’s going on is that you want to control my life. You don’t care about what makes me happy, but want to tell me what to do. Did you even know my team just won the championship yesterday?”
Her throat bobs on a swallow, and I know that’s the answer I’m going to get.
“Yeah, didn’t think so.” I look at Walter, already fired up. “And you, are you going to make more threats to try and drive us apart? Because I’m going to tell you not to waste your breath.”
“Mayson Anne!” my mom squeals. “That’s enough.”
I feel a warm hand on my waist, and Colin’s large body behind me. “I actually don’t think that’s enough. Want to keep going, baby deer?”
“If you wanted more say in my life, maybe you should’ve actually been a mother instead of focusing on what you could get out of a man.”
“That’s not true,” she gasps.
“No? Okay, sure.” I roll my eyes.
“We came down here to tell you both that we don’t accept what you’re doing and we never will,” Walter adds, and it only gets me fired up even more. Colin too, with the way he tenses behind me, but his dad continues. “But we’ve realized you both are adults and if you want to ruin your lives this way, then go ahead.”
Colin scoffs loudly, “Funny how you think we’re ruining our lives. I’ve never been happier.”
“I bet.” Walter glares at both of us.
“Did you come here with anything productive to say because it seems like the same shit we’ve already talked about,” Colin goads.
“You’re not being cut off.” Walter seems to be pained in admitting that.
“Great, you can go then.” Colin gestures toward the door.
“After you both graduate, you’re on your own.”
“Good. We don’t need you,” Colin insists, again gesturing toward the door.
“Think about what you’re doing, Mayson,” my mom has the audacity to sound emotional right now.
“I have. Believe me, I’ve thought about what I’m doing a lot.”
She steps closer to me, talking quietly. “If he ever pressures you into anything you don’t want…”
I bark out a loud laugh. “Trust me, I’ve wanted everything, but I’ll spare you the details.”
“Is that all then? You came here to tell us you’re not cutting us offyet?”Colin asks them both.
I shake my head at the ridiculousness of this entire visit. “So glad we all cleared this up. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.”
“What happened to you?” my mom asks, acting like she actually cares.
“Nothing happened to me, it’s just who I am.”
Colin drops his head to my shoulder, turning to speak directly into my ear. “And who I fell in love with.”
