She makes a face that’s a mix between annoyance, and a smile. Yeah, I’m hers and now everyone knows it too. I don’t even give a fuck about the shit I’m about to get for it. Though, I should probably be worried about the backlash of being caught shoving my tongue in my stepsister’s mouth, I couldn’t give less of a shit.

It’s finally time the rest of the world knows Mayson Dunne is mine and always has been.

Chapter 34

Mayson

After practice, I look at my phone to see I have a missed call from my mom. It only causes me to roll my eyes and toss it down while I change out of my gross uniform. The same one I’m thinking of leaving on Colin’s bed as revenge like he did to me.

“So are we going to talk about the other night?” Anja speaks up.

“What about it?” I shrug.

“The whole…ya know.” She turns around, wrapping her arms around herself and acts like she’s making out with someone.

A few of my teammates laugh, and I can’t help but join in as I toss a towel at her. She turns back around with a big smile on her face.

“You really are getting the ultimate revenge for the Rites, aren’t you?” Lucy nudges my arm.

“What do you mean?”

“Getting him to think you’re into him. Playing the perfect little hostage. I’m sure he loves it, and then when the season isover you canrip it all away.”She laughs almost manically and the rest of my team that’s paying attention joins in, all calling me a genius.

I forgot I told them that was my plan the other night and join in with agreeing that I have the greatest plan. I don’t like lying to them, I didn’t when I initially said it and I don’t like it now. But it gives them an explanation for why I would make out with Colin where everyone could see.

And then fuck him where no one could.

“How are you going to do it? Publicly in front of his team?” Chelsey sounds giddy at the thought.

“I haven’t decided yet.” I shrug as I finish getting dressed.

“I think the guys have been having a rough season anyway, them losing a bunch of their games may be amplified by some solid public humiliation.” Maeghen shrugs.

I can’t argue with that, from what I know Colin has been pretty pissed about the lack of wins they’ve had. Of course he always has someone to blame, and it’s never his fault.

I say goodbye to my team, and as I’m walking back home I glance at my phone again to see the missed call from my mom has turned into several more missed calls and I sigh, dialing her back.

“Mayson, what on Earth have you been doing that you’ve been ignoring me?”

“Uh, school? Soccer?” I’m already annoyed at the conversation and it’s barely even started.

“Why did you leave after Thanksgiving?”

“You’re just asking about this now?” I pull my phone back to double check the date because I’m pretty sure it’s been a week, but maybe I’ve teleported to some alternate reality and the last week has been a hallucination.

“Walter talked to Colin. I thought maybe your brother talked to you, and that you’d reach out.”

I grimace. “Do not call him that, we arenotrelated.”

“You’re family, but that’s neither here nor there. I gave Garrett your number so you could still go on your date.”

“Mom, you think I have time to date? I have too much going on as it is.”

“Temporary things. I know you think you want to be a therapist or whatever, but Mayson you don’t have to if you marry the right man.”

“Physical therapist, glad you pay attention. And my life goal is not to marry for money, mother.”

“I don’t understandwhy. I gave you good looks, might as well use them.”
