“Mom says something is different about you. You seem happier. Moreserene. A little less on edge. She says you keep brushing it off, but she says her motherly senses are tingling. And you know that spells trouble.”

I laugh. “The woman is relentless.”

My mother’s been poking around since I went for Sunday dinner a couple weeks ago. I didn’t expect her to enlist my little sister to dig out the truth.

“I told her you were on top of the world and your business was growing in leaps and bounds, which explains why you must be walking around feeling like you’re Superman,” Harlow says.

“I doubt she was satisfied with that answer.”

“She wasn’t. She insists it’s more. Is Mom onto something?”

You can run, but you can’t hide from Mom.

I know perfectly well Kyla and I can’t keep what we share a secret forever. She’s high profile and people recognize my face. The reason we haven’t made it on any celebrity gossip sites or newspapers yet is because we’ve been hanging out at her cousin’s place or mine. Security is so tight at Dark Compulsion, I don’t even have to worry.

“You know how Mom is,” I say.

“You’re being evasive. What’s up, big brother?”

I consider Harlow, still unsure how to handle this.

I planned on bringing the subject up over the weekend with Kyla. I admit, it wasn’t clear in my head where things were heading between us, but I know now. My little sister poking around is unexpected.

“It must be something pretty heavy because you’re just staring at me,” Harlow says, putting an end to my mental debate. “Did you just sign a contract to produce the videos of the biggest band on the planet and you’re being tightlipped about it?” she laughs.

“This has nothing to do with work,” I tell her.

Her eyes widened in surprise. “So there is something! Is everything okay?”

“Yes. Everything is more than okay. This is personal.”

She frowns. “I don’t understand.”

“It’s about me seeing someone.”

“As in a woman?”

Her response doesn’t surprise me.

I let out a long sigh. I can skirt around the issue or I can take the bull by the horns. “Yes. A woman.”

“You’re seeing a woman?” Harlow shouts.

I nod. “I am.”

Her jaw drops.

“Like you’re dating?”

“We haven’t really defined it yet, but I’ve been seeing her exclusively for the past month.”

“Is she a unicorn?”

I roll my eyes.

“Naughty Loki has been with thesamewoman for the past month?” I hate she knows that about me. “I can’t believe my ears. Is the world about to come to an end? That must be it.” Harlow laughs at her own joke. “Or did someone put a spell on you?”

“I guess you could say that.”
