“I never thought I’d see the day. Who is this mystical creature with sorceress powers? I need to meet her so I can worship the ground she walks on!” Harlow cracks up. She laughs, and she laughs, and she laughs.

“Kyla O’Keeffe.”

“Come again?”

She’s not laughing anymore.

“I’ve been seeing Kyla O’Keeffe.”

“MyKyla?” she asks, pointing at her chest.

She’s mine now.“Yes.”

“You’ve been seeing my best friend for a month?”

I expected this to be a difficult conversation.

“Yes.”

“And neither of you bothered telling me?” She crosses one arm over her chest. “I feel betrayed. You’re my brother and she’s my best friend and you’ve been keeping this a secret? What the hell? Mom clearly doesn’t know, but does Dad know?”

“Our parents don’t know and neither do hers.”

“You’re having a kinky hush-hush thing with my best friend and that’s why you haven’t told anyone?” Her eyes bulge out of her skull.

“Did you hear me say that?” I snap.

“Then why are you keeping this quiet?”

“I’ve never dated––”

“Well, everyone knows that,” she quips.

I cock an eyebrow. “The women I go with aren’t looking for Prince Charming nor are they looking for anything serious. And I’m always upfront and honest, I never mislead anyone.”

“So this isn’t going to last with Kyla?”

She’s shooting daggers at me.

“Are we speaking the same language?”

“I’m confused, Loki. I don’t understand how this happened.”

“It started in Paris––”

“But you haven’t been to Paris in three years–– Oh my God, this kinky relationship has been going on and off for three years? You’ve been flying to New York to get your jollies off with Kyla?”

Now she’s annoying me.

“Harlow, you need to learn how to listen. Kyla is the screenwriter, yet your imagination is coming up with all sorts of crazy plots.”

“I don’t know what to think anymore.” Her shoulders slump in defeat.

“Let me start from the beginning.”

“This, I have to hear.”

Damn, she’s defiant.
