JAYNE

Something is going on.

I don't know what it is because no one has come into my room to let me know, but I can feel it in the air. I also hear the guys rushing around outside as if they are getting ready for something.

I know for sure that if something were about to happen at the clubhouse, Spike or even Nisa would alert me.

My curiosity can't be tamed. Slowly, I poke my head out of the room and, just as I suspected, everyone is in a rush. I don't want to stop them from doing what they need to do, but I need to know what's going on.

With determination, I make my way over to Spike's room. I guess I should've knocked first, but I'm so used to being able to access him whenever I want that it didn't even dawn on me that I should.

I open the door to his room and skid to a stop.

He's wet and shirtless with just a towel around his waist. He just got out of the shower.

Instantly, a hunger I haven't felt since we were in the motel room roars to life and I feel my mouth go dry.

"Why are you bursting in here like that?"

"I...uh...just...um..." For the life of me, I can't get my mouth to make words. My eyes are glued to his chest.

Spike chuckles, and when he reaches for his towel, I squeak and turn so I'm facing the door. It's a poor attempt at privacy.

A second later, I feel Spike coming up behind me. "If you wanted a show, all you have to do is ask."

I huff out a breath before I turn back in his direction. Thankfully, he has his pants on.

"You wish. I'm not here for anything you have." I do my best to put some sass in my voice, but being this close to him is really making me hot.

"What do you need, Jaynie?"

I have to stifle a groan. I've missed him calling me that.

"Nothing, I just want to know what's going on. I see everyone making moves, but it feels like I'm missing something. Did we come up with a plan?"

Spike sighs and turns away from me, going back to his bed so he can grab his shirt to put on.

"You don't need to worry about it. It's all being taken care of."

"What the hell does that mean? Of course I need to worry about it. Did you forget I was there when we found out about the party coming up? I can't just ignore something like this." My eyes dart from his bed to the clothes that he has on. "That's what you're getting ready for, isn't it? You're going to that party."

"Jayne..." he grumbles.

"No, don't Jayne me. You can't think to leave me here."

Spike snaps his head in my direction. "The hell I can't. What part of this do you think is a game? This is some serious shit we're about to get into, Jayne. Not just somewhere for you to hang out."

I'm fuming now. "Don't talk to me like I'm a child, Spike. Of course I know I wouldn't be going to this party just to hang out and party. I know how serious it is. When are you going to learn to trust my judgment?" I snap back at him.

His mouth opens and then shuts again with no words coming out.

I don't want to argue with him, not when he's only just started being in a good mood with me.

Slowly, I force a breath out of my mouth before I walk up to him and drape my arms around his neck. "Spike, I'm not asking to go simply because I want to be in the business. I'm asking to go because I know you're going to need me there."

"Jaynie, I can't risk it. I can't..."

His words cut off and he tries to look away from me.
