“Mrs. Wells, go home. On Monday, we will discuss your retirement.” His tone was tight, and a barely controlled growl rumbled through his chest.
Tobias took my hand and led me to his office, closing the door behind us. He buried his face in the crook of my neck and held me tight in his arms. His body was shaking.
“Tobias, are you okay?”
His voice was guttural. “Mate in danger.”
“I’m not. Everything’s fine now.” I rubbed his back. “I’m right here. Everything’s okay.”
He took several deep breaths, and slowly his body relaxed against mine. “She shouldn’t have touched you.”
“No, she shouldn’t have.” There was no point in disagreeing. “But she didn’t believe I was your mate.”
He raised his head. “You told her you were my mate?”
I nodded.
Tobias’s growl was less controlled now, his body tensing again as he turned toward the office door. “She grabbed you, knowing you were my mate. She tried to hurt my Luna.”
I took his face in my hands and brought his focus back to me. “It’s okay. It was a misunderstanding. She didn’t hurt me.”
“She could have.” His breaths were quick, gradually slowing to match mine. “She’s a trained werewolf. Don’t let her age fool you.”
“Well, then maybe we should ramp up my training. Is there a class in defending yourself against an elderly opponent?” I tried to lighten the mood with a joke, but it fell flat.
“You defend yourself the same as you would a person your own age. And you’re right about the training. I’ll get Danny to train you himself.”
“Who’s Danny?”
“He’s my Delta. He’s in charge of training the warriors.” Tobias gave a single nod, as if it was decided. “That’s what we’ll do. Danny will get you ready to defend yourself in no time.”
“I was joking.”
“I’m not.”
We stared at each other. “Yesterday, you didn’t even want me to train. I had to talk you into letting me continue with the program.”
“That was before you were attacked in the packhouse.”
I tried to reason with him. “This is crazy. Mrs. Wells was insulting, and yes, she tried to drag me out of the office, but you will not pull the man in charge of training your warriors to train one human.”
“You’re my mate and the pack’s next Luna. I need to know you’ll be safe. The other option is I get Patrick, my Gamma, to set a security detail on you.”
“I do not need a security detail.”
“Training with Danny, or security detail. Your choice.”
I grumbled, sure I sounded like a petulant child. “Training.”
His eyes lost focus as he mind-linked someone. “Done. Danny will be there Monday afternoon.”

Tobias
My wolf was mad that I arranged for another unmated wolf to train Emma. He wanted us to always be with her, to ensure her safety. Then she wouldn’t need training. But Emma wouldn’t go for that.
It would be foolish to change my mind about Danny training her, as he was the best man for the job, but maybe I needed to be at the gym during their training sessions.
