“Have you seen a woman who looks incredibly out of place? She’s supposed to be here to interview for the nanny position and security said she came in but we were in my office and she didn’t show up there.”
“Been preoccupied since then, man.” Maddox cupped my chin and lifted my face so I could see him. “If your girl heard ours ranting and raving she probably tucked tail and ran.”
“Not my girl.” The other man sighed. “Shit. I need a fucking nanny. I’m getting desperate.”
I found my voice and looked over at the terrifying man I recognized as Dominic. He was just as scary as he’d been the day he met me and Maddox in the parking lot.
“There was a woman on the stage before me. Sutton. She looked like a kindergarten teacher with big, black glasses. She ran as soon as she could. The stupid auctioneer guy was trying to auction her off.”
Dominic stepped closer to me and frowned.
“The auctioneer guy that you bit? I understand your masters punished you, sweetheart, but make no mistake. If you comehere again and act that way, it’ll be my job to take over punishment since you clearly didn’t learn from them.”
I cringed away from him. I didn’t even care he’d called the guys my masters. That was the least of my worries.
“I’m a fast learner, thank you.”
Jace growled.
“Remember who started this place, Dom. You lay a hand on her and I’ll tear this place to the ground.”
“And you remember who you just sold your shares to. Keep her in line and we won’t have any problems.” Heaving a great sigh, Dominic rolled his shoulders. “Now I have a fucking kindergarten teacher to find. Excuse me.”
I shuddered once Luc was moving again.
“I don’t want him in charge of punishing me. Ever. Please.”
Luc rubbed his hand over my stinging butt.
“That’s nothing you have to worry about, little bunny. We won’t be back here unless you’re willing and excited. There’d be no reason for you to act up. Right?”
“And no other man will ever touch you, little girl. Not unless they want to lose their fucking hands.” Jace sounded as serious as I’d ever heard him.
“I feel bad for Sutton.” I blinked back more tears that just didn’t want to stop. “Are y’all mad at me?”
“Little bit, sweetheart.” Maddox patted the back of my head and sighed. “Little bit.”
Before I could reply we were in their upstairs apartment and Luc was putting me down on his bathroom counter. I gasped as my overheated skin touched the cold marble and tried to jump down but Luc braced his hands on either side of my thighs, blocking me in.
“No. You keep your hot little ass on that counter while I run you a bath. Move and you’ll get five more.”
I kept my eyes down and pouted.
“Is it even safe to spank a pregnant lady?”
He gently cupped my belly and then moved away.
“I would never put you or our baby at risk.”
That was all he had to say on the matter, apparently. I sat there, wondering how long they’d be mad at me. It didn’t matter. I felt the weight that’d been sitting on me slowly falling away the longer I was in their presence. Even if they were mad forever, they were there with me. They didn’t find anyone else.
CHAPTER 55
Maddox
I stood back and watched Luc run a bath and Jace slide Harley into the hot water. I watched as they both settled her on her sore ass and took time washing her. She’d shown up in dirty clothes, boots, hay in her hair, and with a mixture of dirt and sweat coating her skin. Instead of her usual sweet scent, she smelled like nature and horse. It should’ve been awful but it was such a familiar smell from growing up on the ranch that I’d just wanted to bury my face in her hair and inhale as deeply as I could. She’d been working on another man’s ranch. Her friend Reagan had kept us up to date. It was the only way I’d managed to stay away once we knew where she was.
It’d nearly killed me to know she was doing physical labor. Seeing her again, seeing her little bump sticking out, knowing she’d chosen to stay away as long as she had, it hit me harder than I expected. I was angry. I was also fucking elated she’d come back, as crazed as she’d been. A part of me loved that she’d disrespected the club to fight for us. The anger was still there, clawing up my neck and making it hard to breathe. After weeks of barely sleeping and struggling to breathe normally, it was fucking with me that she was back and I still couldn’t take a deep breath. The fucking emotions were burning me alive.
