“Sit up,” Chandler ordered, and the guard rose to his knees. He shot the guard right between the eyes without warning. The man’s blood and brain matter shot out the back of his shattered skull, splattering the wall behind him in human gore. His body fell to the floor in a crumpled heap, completely lifeless. Again, Delilah screamed, but I was so shocked by what I’d seen, I didn’t have the words to even bitch about what had happened. I looked at Chandler, mouth open.
He shrugged. “Anyone else got something to say? Huh?!” He looked at the other guards lying face down on the floor and snorted. “Yeah, that’s what I thought. You can tell your fucking Prince that we’re the rebel cell that took out his punk ass vampire and we killed the werewolf just for the hell of it. It’s war on you fucking supes and we’re bringing the hell they’re going to pay. Got that?”
“Yeah… Yeah, we’ve got it,” one of the guards said.
“Good.” Chandler smiled, then winked at me.
What the fuck had just happened? My hands were trembling as I held my gun on the guards nearest me. I had to snap out of my shocked state and get my focus back. I was confused as fuck now, and pissed because this was not the damn plan! Taking and killing hostages wasn’t in the cards. It was supposed to be in and out, none of this shit. It was going to be a perk if the Alpha died, but there was no telling if the draining would work, and now that we couldn’t pin it on them, we needed to just kill the Alpha and bounce. We had to improvise now, but after we left here, Chandler and I were going to have some motherfucking words.
“Jesus, Chandler, what the hell did you just do?” Delilah shouted as she looked at the corpse of the guard.
“We don’t have time for this shit. Let’s go,” I snapped. For some reason, I felt like Chandler was stalling and I couldn’t figure out why. Damn it! My instincts were always right and I knew I couldn’t trust him. For some reason, he wanted notoriety for these crimes, and that wasn’t the story he had told to us. Now I wondered what else Chandler was keeping secret.
“We need to get the fuck out of here,” David said.
Chandler huffed. “Fine, kill the wolf and let’s get out of here.”
“Try not to kill anyone else while I’m gone,” I snapped. “I’ll meet you outside.”
“Just go,” Chandler shot back.
I didn’t bother to trade anymore words with him. I ran towards the back to where the draining room was, but before I could reach it, I heard a loud noise, which caused me to pause. The next thing that happened surprised me. The back door was smashed inward and flew off its hinges. Three large men dressed in suits entered and charged toward me.
I turned and ran as fast as I could back to the lobby. “Run!” I screamed. We ran towards the front door, which burst open, and more guys in suits stormed in. My heart was pounding in my chest when I aimed my gun at them, retreating as I blasted away, but shit… they were fast. Fuck! Wolves! Shit, this was what I wanted to avoid. Chandler, Zach, David, and Delilah all fired on them, but there were so many, and they surrounded us in no time. Everything was happening so fast, I couldn’t keep track of what was going on.
Someone snatched me from behind, wrapping a thick, muscular arm around my neck. He grabbed my hand with the gun, squeezing it so hard, I had no choice but to drop my weapon. I struggled in his grip, trying hard to break free, but it was no use. Fuck, he was as strong as an ox.
I watched helplessly as Zach and David were both overtaken by the other wolves who’d outnumbered us three to one. I was dragged back towards the front of the building and saw Delilah pinned under the foot of a man dressed in a black suit. He was smoking a cigar and, by the air of sheer arrogance surrounding him, he looked to be in charge. Chandler was caught in the grip of another hulking wolf, who it seemed had had his way with him. Chandler was bleeding from his lip and nose as he grimaced in pain.
I turned my attention back to the son of a bitch with his foot on Delilah’s back. I didn’t even see when she’d been taken down. I glared at him because I didn’t appreciate what he was doing to her. “Motherfucker,” I ground out.
“Did you find him?” the man asked, but I knew he wasn’t talking to me.
“He’s safe and sound, Boss. A little drugged up though,” one of the wolves said behind me. I finally saw who was talking as he walked by me carrying the Alpha gently in his arms. He stepped up to the other guy with the cigar and looked down at the drugged wolf with a mixture of lust, love, and admiration, if I wasn’t mistaken. He reached out, stroking the other wolf’s face, then nodded.
“Take him home. Tell no one else about what happened,” he ordered.
“Yes, Boss,” the wolf answered, then walked off.
The “Boss” returned his attention back to us. I saw Delilah try to rise, but she was pushed back to the floor by his foot. He looked down at her. “Try that again, bitch, and I’ll squash you like a fucking grape.”
“Don’t you fucking hurt her!” I yelled.
He laughed. “The balls on this one, can you believe it?” he asked the others surrounding us as he motioned to me with his cigar.
“Pretty big, Boss. I wonder how they’ll look between my teeth,” one of the wolves replied.
“I might just rip them off and give them to you,” the Boss said.
He sneered as he looked at me. He was so enraged, his eyes flashed yellow, revealing the monster beneath the human façade. I had to admit, the look he gave me made my heart leap into my throat, but I was refusing to piss my pants. At least, not in front of him.
“You were bold enough to spit in the face of my mate. You have no idea how much I want to rip your skeleton from your body and then beat you with it.” His voice was deep, like a menacing growl, when he spoke to me, then he turned away and appeared to take several deep breaths in what looked like an attempt to calm down.
So, that washismate whose face now had a glob of my saliva on it. Good. That meant this asshole had to be Deacon, the motherfucker who sold Dante out. Of course, I was no longer in any position to get revenge anymore. I bet he wanted me to say something, but I kept my mouth shut and only continued to glare up at him.
When it seemed like he’d gotten himself together, he looked at me. “So, you’re the group who has been causing me and every other supe so much trouble?” he asked.
I didn’t respond.
