Heleaned his head back and grinned. “Okay, boss.”
Overthe next couple of days,Sebastianrested and even let me cook for him, althoughIdidn’t have his culinary wizardry.Acomforting mac and cheese with some meatballs and a side salad,Icould handle.Oncehe recovered, we returned to our normal life together, one thatIloved.
Whilewe cuddled on the sofa,Ifaced him and asked, “Doyou think you could get some time off work next month?”
“Sure,Ishould be able to manage something. Why, what’s up?”
“Iwant to take you somewhere special.Avacation where it’s just the two of us.”
Hissoulful eyes twinkled. “Ilike the sound of that.Doyou have someplace in mind?”
“Yes.Ithink you’ll love it there, butI’mnot going to tell you where it is yet.”Mylips spread into a secretive smile. “Itwill be a surprise.”
CHAPTER18
GIANNA
“Thisisland is perfection.”Igaped asIturned in a semi-circle. “Howhave we never come here before?”
Thesunlight sparkled as it danced in reflections on the surface of the water.Thesun was beginning to set, casting a brilliant tapestry of pinks and orange in the sky.Iinhaled the salty fragrance of the ocean, already itching to submerge in it for a swim.
“Andso close,”Sebastianadded. “Theflight wasn’t bad at all.”Hesqueezed my hand as we walked toward the waterfront onSanMiguel, the biggest island in theAzores. “Whata fantastic surprise,Gianna.Thankyou for arranging it.”
Ourhotel was behind us, and we had a room with an oceanfront view.Thatwas the part of the sea thatSebastianenjoyed—a view from a distance.Weheaded out to explore the city ofPontaDelgadabefore we went out for dinner.
Afterwe’d walked for a while to get a sense of the area,Sebastianstopped. “Whydon’t we head back to the marina and stop for a drink?”
“Sure.”Weturned to walk in the other direction and ventured past several boats, many advertising excursions for fishing, whale watches, and more.Westepped down to the lively area with restaurants and cafés and strolled by several that promoted their specials.
“Thisone looks good.”Sebastiangestured at a café with outdoor tables and colorful menus boasting drinks with names inspired by pop culture.
Wesat at an available table.Musicwafted out from speakers but at a low enough volume to not drown out conversation.
“Oooh, a strawberryBellinisounds good to me.”Ipointed to the section beneath the fruity cocktails.
“Whatdo they have for beer?”Sebastianmused aloud. “Thereit is.I’llhave aSagres.”
Oncewe’d ordered our drinks, we settled back into our chairs, each positioned so we could enjoy the view.WhileIfocused on the sea,Sebastianwas more into people-watching.Thesound of conversations inPortugueseandEnglishflowed around us.
Theserver brought over our drinks, andSebastianasked him about his favorite restaurants.Isipped my fruity champagne, admiring my husband as he grew passionate while discussing the local specialties.Theserver noted that we should book reservations to ensure we could get in, especially at the more popular options, and then went to help another table.
Whenour drinks were almost done,Sebastianpulled out his phone and searched for some of the restaurants the server had mentioned. “I’llsee if any of them have an opening tonight.Areyou in the mood for anything particular?”
“No,”Ireplied. “Thelocal specialties he mentioned sound good, but when it comes to restaurants,IknowI’min good hands ifIleave the decision to you.”Ismiled at him.
Hecocked his head and glanced at me with a wolfish grin. “I’llmake sure you go to bed satisfied.”
Iarched my brows. “Youalways do.”
Hechuckled. “Imeant with a full and happy stomach.”Hiseyes gleamed with decadence. “Butnow that you mention it…”Hepaused and leaned in closer. “Wehave a king-sized bed waiting for us in the hotel later.”Hisvoice lowered to a sensual, velvety baritone that shot heated tingles through my body.
“Hotelsex sounds fun.”Iflashed him a naughty smile.
Hisbrows lifted. “Hotelon vacationsex.”
“Andeven better, a hotel on vacationmakeupsex.”ThenIcringed.WhydidIhave to bring that up, which would bring us back to our short separation?
OnceSebastianhad recovered after the fight withZaneand his band members, we’d had phenomenal makeup sex, which was why it came to mind.Almostlosing the love of my life after pushing him away and then having another chance with him fueled my emotions.ButIdidn’t want to ruin the vacation vibe.Istill wanted to make up for hurting him and show him how muchIcared for and appreciated him. “Ishouldn’t have brought that up.”OnceIreached across the table,Itook his hand.
