I gaped at her in utmost surprise.
“I wanted to hear how it sounds.” She tipped her head. “Mate,” she repeated. “I like it. But I also like lover.”
“Me, too.” I chuckled.
Gianna stood and took my hand. “I think we should start working on the buildup.” Her eyes gleamed with dark sensuality as she led me to the stairs up to my room. “And then we’ll get ever closer to that reward.”
She stirred my desire like no one else could. I followed her up the stairs. I’d follow her anywhere. Once we reached my doorway, I cupped her face with both hands. “I love you, my siren. My lover. My mate.” Then I kissed her.
Epilogue
Gianna
Sebastian slung his arm around my waist as we entered the Danger Zone. Nova, Diego, and Lucas were behind us.
Sebastian said, “I have fond memories here. It’s where I met my mate and she tossed me on my ass.”
“Well, you were quite the animal that night.” I leaned in and whispered. “And even more so every time since.”
Billy Idol’s “Hot in the City” played, and I remembered singing it in the basement with Nova.
Sebastian murmured in my ear, “It certainly is hot in witch city every night with my siren.”
After we headed to the bar, I faced him. “I was thinking about what you said about family.”
“What did I say?” he asked.
“That it doesn’t have to be who you’re born with. You can find your tribe.”
He grinned. “Ah, right.”
“I think you’re right about that.” I nodded behind us. “Nova has been like family since we were kids.”
“And now you have me.”
“I’m glad I found you.”
“Me too.” He kissed me. “We’re all one big hodgepodge in a crazy family.”
I laughed. That’s how the world might see us—a half-siren, wolf shifter, witch, vampire, and half-dragon shifter. Not the typical crew.
Things were better with my biological family, too, specifically my father. I told him about what happened with my mother, apologizing for not listening to him as he was right to warn me. He apologized as well for deceiving me and being so overbearing in trying to protect me. It was shocking to hear my stern dad saying sorry, but it felt good. Even if it hadn’t happened, I’d be okay. I had this crew with me, many who’d risked their lives to save me. I couldn’t find a better tribe.
The next song played, Monty Python’s “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life,” which I’d added to the rotation after we’d watched that ridiculous movie together. The guys sang along, and Nova and I joined in.
“Poor Lucas.” I glanced at us lining up at the bar. “Do you think he feels like a fifth wheel?”
Sebastian chuckled. “He’s probably laughing at us right now for being fools in love when we could be fielding a partner for the night.”
Lucas’s gaze roamed the club, appearing as if he was on the prowl to hunt.
“Think he’ll ever settle down?”
“I wouldn’t call it ‘settling.’” Sebastian pulled me close and stared into my eyes. “We need to find a better word for that.”
I chuckled. “Guess we have to play Scrabble again.”
“Maybe tomorrow.” A hungry glimmer gleamed in his eyes. “We can find something more physical to play tonight.”
