As the sound gets closer, I can tell it’s more than one biker. I know the moment Calloway realizes the men are not friendly. He tenses underneath my hands. Reaching down, he squeezes my hand before pressing it closer to his stomach.

He wants me to hold on.

One of the other bikers guns it. I look over in time to see the unfamiliar man, but the cut on his jacket is familiar.

Ragged Anarchy.

How did they find us? Are they watching Asher’s sister?

Calloway doesn’t hesitate. He guns it, sending us speeding down the mountain road at speeds way faster than I’m comfortable with. My heart is racing in my chest as I hold on to him tightly. He does what he can, but he can’t shake these men.

No matter what he does, they stay on our tail.

I squeeze him tighter, scared to death that I might fall off the bike. At these speeds, I don’t think all the protection in the world would stop me from dying. I’m not ready to leave this world yet. Not when I’ve finally found a family worth living for.

Calloway takes a corner sharply, cutting off the view from the other bikers for a moment before he slows to a damn near stop and turns down an old trail. I have no idea how he saw it in the dark, but he manages to get the bike on it before he guns it again. I tuck my head in tighter as trees whip by, their branches scraping against my leather-covered arms.

I can still hear the bikes behind us, but they are farther back now.

Calloway turns left down another trail. Then another left. Before I know it, I am completely lost, but the hum of the bikes behind us is farther and farther away. Finally, Calloway comes toa stop, turning off the bike and putting the kickstand up before pulling me around so I’m straddling his lap.

He has my helmet off and tossed aside in a second. His joins mine as he pulls my head into his chest, holding me close.

“Are you okay? You’re not hurt, are you?”

His heart is beating a million miles a minute in his chest. I listen for the roar of a motorcycle, but it’s silent here. Not a single noise can be heard.

“I’m fine. Where are we?” I ask him.

“An old hunting camp. They won’t find us here. The trails aren’t marked, and they aren’t even meant for any motor vehicles, but we made it safely, and that’s all that matters. Are you sure you’re okay?”

He pulls back to look at my face.

Physically, I’m okay. Mentally, I’m a little shaken.

However, my body feels like it’s pumping with blood. I feel this energy beneath my skin that is almost making me itch. I need something, but I don’t know what.

“I feel like I’m crawling out of my skin,” I finally admit.

“It’s the adrenaline. It will wear off, and then you will be exhausted,” he informs me.

The heat of his body against mine has my body coming alive. Cupping his cheek, I press a kiss to his lips. He kisses me back, his hand going to my hips to squeeze them.

“What are you doing?” he whispers as I kiss down his neck.

“I feel alive for the first time in my life,” I admit softly. “I want to feel more.”

“It’s the adrenaline. I don’t want to take advantage of you. That was scary shit you just went through. You need to process it.”

“I’m so sick and tired of people telling me how I’m supposed to feel. I want to feel how I want to feel. Please, Calloway. Don’t make me beg for it. I need you to fuck me.”

He groans as I rock against him.

“Magpie, I don’t want you to come to resent me.”

“Never. Not for this. Remind me what it means to be yours.”

He growls. “You don’t know what you are asking for. I’ve been tame with you so far.”
