The shock wore off as quickly as it had come, and I flung into action. My arms pumped as my legs ran as fast as I could go. Bullets fired at me from the rolled-down window of the car, but I didn’t care. All I wanted was to get to Liv, to save her before she was gone again. I couldn’t take this fucked up life without her. I couldn’t bear to do this all over again.

I was a lucky son of a bitch as the gunfire missed me and Saint had my back, firing at the vehicle like a madman. He took out a window. I even think he hit the shooter, but he couldn’t get a clear shot of the asshole pushing Liv inside of the car. The back door swung open as the tires squealed and burned rubber, but I couldn’t stop my sprint.

Saint continued shooting. I prayed he hit a tire, the gas tank, fucking something. But there was nostopping the Pitrones as they took Liv away. Stole her all over again. We were that close.

No! No! No!

“Fuck!” I yelled, panting as I came to a dead stop.

Liv was gone. The car disappeared and took my heart with it. But there had to be hope in this shitty situation. We still had a chance to catch up to those bastards.

I turned around and ran past Saint. “Come on! We can still catch them!”

Saint didn’t move.

Instead, Saint pulled out his cellphone. “No.”

“What the fuck do you mean no? Fuck, man! Did you not hear me?” I roared, my rage busting from the seams. “They are getting away!”

“We got them right where we want them.” Saint grinned as he tapped the screen with his index finger and stepped toward me.

“What the fuck are you talking about?” I asked, clearly confused as hell.

Saint turned his cell phone toward me.

“I put a tracker right under their asses before we crashed the deal,” he answered.

Holy shit!Sneaky motherfucker.

I kissed Saint on his sweaty forehead. “You fucking genius. Why didn’t I think of that?”

I watched intently as the little red dot moved, because our life depended on it. I couldn’t turn away from the tracker, our one shot at getting Liv back. She was our universe, our everything. We wouldn’t go quietly—we were about to bring the Pitrone empire down. The Lord would have no mercy on us after we crushed them within our wrath, because we were about to commit the ultimate sin.

Their Universe

Liv

Holy shit! My phantoms had found me! They had hunted for me and never gave up on me. All the hopelessness disappeared as my heart raced as if the organ would explode out of my chest. The gunfire was terrifying, but with Sin and Saint on my side, I was safe. No one could hurt me anymore because they’d rescue me.

I was certain until this asshole beside me pushed me into a car. A different vehicle from what I had arrived in—it must’ve remained on standby. The driver was prepared to snatch me up if anything went wrong.

Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!I blasted on repeat inside my mind, with the back of my head banging on the seat. I was this close to freedom. This wasa cruel life lesson not to get ahead of myself when I was still a step behind.

The cursing inside the car subsided, but the tension was palpable. The ominous cloud remained trapped in here, about to suffocate us all. Thick. Grim. Scary as hell. Especially for the sick son of a bitch who got shot in the chest. His wound leaked blood onto the passenger seat as he bled out, and the driver tried to compress the injury.

“Jesus Christ!” the driver shouted as he steered, letting go of the wound for two seconds to turn the wheel, and red stained the leather. “What the fuck happened back there?”

“I… I don’t know…” the thug beside me with a sweaty, wrinkly forehead stuttered. “These guys came out of nowhere. They shot up the Bravatas and came after us.”

The half dead man in the seat in front of me made an awful sound. He coughed, choking on his own blood. The gurgling sound made me sick to my stomach and bile collected in my throat. The smell of vital fluid was strong and crimson seeped through the material of the seat.

Saint’s shot must have hit the asshole’s lung. Good. Fucker deserved to suffer and gasp until he met his fate of death.

“Who were those guys?” He took his hand off the dying man’s chest.

“I… I… Don’t know!” Panic took over the dumbass beside me.
