“To chase you?” I call. “Never.”

I would chase her to the ends of the lands and back. I would chase her through dangerous waters and the darkness of the sea.

I will always chase the light she casts upon me.

We run for a while, her thinking she has the upper hand while I let her believe that as the thrill of the hunt rolls through me.

Better to tire her out, first. Better to catch my prey.

“Got you,” I say when I round a tree and collide with her.

She screams, struggling in my grip as we tumble to the ground, her magic wrestling with me as she laughs.

“You big fucker. Get off me,” she pants, throwing magic in my face so I’m temporarily blinded.

“That wasn’t very nice.” I smile down at her, grabbing her wrists and pinning them to the floor. “That’s better,” I say, covering her hands with my power.

“It’s not fair, you have the upper hand.”

I shake my head, leaning over her. “You couldn’t be more wrong.”

“How so?” she asks, struggling in my grip. “I think this speaks for itself.”

I shake my head. “When are you going to realize you have all the power here?”

She stills then, staring up at me.

I let her look, let her see the truth of it.

“And you freely give that power?”

The hold she has on me? No.

But power?

“Yes.” I tell her, and she releases a stuttering breath.

She looks at me, imploring with her eyes what she won’t say aloud. I wait a moment, watching as dark specks enter her eyes, sending a heat through my chest.

“You never need to ask for what you want from me, little wolf. Just take it, it’s yours anyway.”

I take her mouth with mine, demanding her to open for me, but I keep it gentle. I let her feel me, her little tongue exploring as she wiggles beneath me. I taste her too, something that is only ever hers and again, I want to capture it and keep it.

I slow the kiss before breaking it, rubbing my nose against hers.

“Do you think I will be able to control my power like you? Will I be enough?”

She looks at me like she’s desperate for the answer, and I give her the truth, releasing her wrists and placing my hands on either side of her head.

“You are always enough Rhea, and when you fully control your power, you will be more.”

She seems to relax under that, letting my words settle her.

“And until then?”

“We keep practicing and keep trying to get your wolf out.” Drax purrs at that.

Rhea nods and I stand, holding a hand out to help her up. I grab it, but I realize my mistake too late.
