“We are.” He takes a deep breath. “So let’s show them that it was not in vain to choose us, little wolf.”
I nod.
Yes. Let’s.
Sixty Six
Rhea
“Arhh,” I shout, throwing the axe and hitting the tree. Sweat runs into my eyes and I wipe them with the back of my hand. The others fare no better.
“Why are you using an axe again?” Seb asks, throwing a knife and watching as it lands perfectly in the center of one of the dummies that we made.
They are about six feet, filled with straw and Seb drew silly faces on all of them. Their eyes look like they’re rolling in the back of their head and their mouths gape open, drool spilling down from it.
He said it was his sex face.
We quickly decapitated most of them.
“Anything around you can be a weapon, it’s good to use anything you can find,” I answer him.
“She’s right, you just don’t like anything but knives,” Taylor chimes in, sparring with Colten, who has Hudson scowling.
I snicker and Hudson’s gaze flicks to me for just a moment, before he goes back to watching Colten with such intensity that even my cheeks heat at it.
“Where is the babysitter?” Anna asks. She’s practicing off to the side, Zaide volunteering to beherdummy as his face grimaces. “Oops, sorry. Too much?” He shakes his head, rolling his shoulders.
“Don’t boil him, Anna, Darius wouldn’t want that.”
She smiles, raising her hand as she pinches her fingers slightly together. “It’s just a little.”
I shake my head, walking to the tree to grab the axe. “I don’t know where Darius is anyway, to be honest.”
And I don’t. He’s been avoiding me, is the only way I can put it.
After going to Vahaliel, I’ve barely seen him. He just says he is preparing for us to continue with training, making sure Eridian is secure and that we have enough supplies. It’s like he doesn’t know I’m already doing that, but he insists we do more.
It feels like he’s keeping me out of the way and it…hurts, I guess.
A growl from the side has me looking at Kade. He’s sparring with Josh, both wolves, and Kade is in full control, which is great to see.
I look further up as Leif and the Alpha wolf sit further back near a tree. They don’t come closer, well, the Alpha doesn’t, but Leif trots over every now and then.
It must be hard for the both of them to have lost so much.
“How are the new cabins coming along?” Damian asks, now having a knife-throwing competition with Seb.
“Good, The pack from Colhelm excels in carpentry, so it’s coming along quicker than expected.”
We have had five new cabins constructed in just a few days. It would take us nearly half a moon cycle to do just one.
The plan is to build as many as possible so those that need it can have sanctuary here, and with us having plenty of room in the forest, we can all live here with a decent amount of distance between the little settlements.
Beasts are now hunting the lands, not just Rogures and we need to start evaluating those in need.
At least, that’s the plan, along with going back to The Drylands to see if there are any survivors left after the collapse of that place. We are just waiting on news from Darius’s Elites after they have cleared a way.
“I’m going to wash up and then go over supplies again,” I tell them. They nod and I make my way home.
