He did finally have a FaceTime call with Brandy, and though I could tell it was hard for him to see her so bubbly and excited, mostly focusing on all her adventures, I think he seemed a bit more settled knowing she was okay. He asked us afterward if he would be staying in Jersey and I told him he’s staying wherever I go. The way the kid tried to hide the big smile by turning toward Fuzzy and nuzzling into his neck was very typical for my son, but I heard him later that night telling Lola he wanted to be wherever we were.

It’s going to take time, I know that. But we’ve got all the time in the world because not one of us is going anywhere.

So long as we can get T. J. to move in. I made an appointment with Madame E to figure out our next steps. She should be here within the hour. Which means my surprise for Lola has to get moving and I have to stop kissing her.

But fuck do I love kissing my girl.

Lola wraps her tiny hands around my neck and I lift her out of her chair. “Are you sure no one is coming back?” She says with a breathy moan as she wraps her legs around my waist and starts grinding against me. Her skirt rides up to her hips and I have to stifle a damn groan to try to keep my cool.

“I’m sure,” I promise, hiking her closer and walking her out of the office.

“Cal, we can’t do it in Brian’s office again. He’s been so good with Fuzzy, he’ll murderyou in your sleep.”

I chuckle and peck her lips again. “We’re not doing anything in Brian’s office. We’re doing it in yours.”

I walk straight into the last office on the right and then set Lola on the brand new desk that was delivered last evening while she was reading Murphy a story upstairs. Then I pull the tie from her eyes.

“My office?” Lola’s face is a mixture of confused elation. Her smile is wide but she also looks like she doesn’t believe it.

I nod. “I’m barely here anyway. So you can work in here and stay away from Amy. I’ll only need it if I’m meeting with a client.”

She snorts. “You never meet with clients.”

“Exactly. So it’s all yours.”

“Cal,” Lola breathes my name out. “This is amazing. And this desk. And that filing cabinet.” She stands up and walks around the small office which is far less than she deserves but I did try to fill it with all her required things. She spins and sucks in a breath when she spots the picture of her, Murphy and me from Halloween sitting on her desk. There’s also a copy of the post-it note framed and a picture of the two of us from our day on the cliff walk—the one where she’s kissing me on the cheek. “It’s everything I would have ever wanted.”

I step closer and push her beautiful red hair behind her ear, then stroke the space beneath it. God, she’s so soft. I love touching her. “Well, whatever Lola wants…”

Her eyes light up. Those words are never a taunt anymore. But before I can lean in and take my prize, she presses her finger against my lips, stopping me. “But if I’m in your office, then you’ll be in the conference room working with Amy.”

I shrug. “Yes.”

Her eyes narrow. “I don’t like it.”

My smile blooms across my face. “Are you jealous, Lola Caruso?”

She rolls her lips and then nods, before wrapping her arms around my neck. “Yes.”

“Well, what can I do to make it up to you?”

She bites her lip. “You could work in here with me.”

I can’t help it, a bark of a laugh sneaks out. “Is Lola actually begging me to stick around?”

She rolls her eyes. “Whatever. You know I like you, this isn’t a secret.”

I grin. “Good, because I love you.”

Lola melts at those words. “I love you too, Cal.” This time she doesn’t stop me when I lean in to kiss her.

I kick the door shut, because much like my bedroom, there isn’t a ton of room and then I settle Lola on the desk prepared to devour her.

“Lo!” My brother’s booming voice has Lola pushing back and scrambling to right herself.

“I thought you said no one was here!” she hisses.

I growl as I stare at the door right as my brother swings it open. “No one was supposed to be.”
