“That’s awesome,” Matt says.

Everyone congratulates me at once, and Tyler holds up his hand to give me a high five.

“We need to celebrate,” Caroline says. “We should plan a big dinner.”

I hold up my hand to stop her. “That would be wonderful, but let’s wait until after the wedding.”

She laughs. “Yeah, that’s probably a good idea. My mother will lose her mind if I try to plan something else. She’s still mad at me for going on the cruise.”

Exactly. I certainly don’t want to get on Charlotte Carlisle’s bad side.

After we finish eating, Erica is the first to leave. I think she stayed longer than she wanted to. Caroline walks her out while Andy and the guys go outside to look at something in the garage. Leslie and I are the only two remaining in kitchen, so I start cleaning up.

“I can’t believe the wedding is right around the corner,” I say, trying to make conversation as I wipe the counter around the sink.

“When did you drive Tyler’s truck?”

I tighten my jaw. I knew she wouldn’t drop this subject.

“It’s not a big deal,” I tell her. “We met up for a drink the night we found out about Christian.”

Her green eyes flash with anger. “I knew it.”

“You knew what?” I ask. “It was a drink, and I drove the truck. Who cares?”

“Stop, just stop,” she shouts in a loud whisper. “You have no idea how long I’ve been interested in Tyler. You think you can show up here and take him away.”

“Leslie—”

She moves toward me and gets right in my face. “I will coexist with you for Caroline’s sake, but we will never be friends.”

Well, there’s a surprise. She’s already made that clear.

“And as far as Tyler goes, he’s still very single, and I don’t give up easily. Until he tells me to step aside, I’ll be here.”

The sound of Caroline’s voice forces her to move away from me.

It was never my intention to make an enemy out of Leslie, but here we are. I decide to make my exit because I’m both frustrated and exhausted. I give Caroline a quick hug and tell her to say good-bye to the guys for me. It’s been a long day, and all I want right now is a hot bath and a break from all drama.

As soon as I get out of the bath, my phone buzzes. I feel slightly giddy when I read the message from Tyler.

I can’t believe you left without saying good-bye.

I chew on my lip as I type a response. Admittedly it makes me happy that he noticed, but I’m certainly not going to tell him that.

I’m sorry. It’s been an exhausting day. I asked Caroline to say good-bye for me.

As much as I’d like to tell him about my altercation with Leslie, I don’t want to cause more problems.

We have a few matters to discuss. I need some organization in my life and your car needs an identity.

I smile and shake my head. He’s never going to give that up, so I should just let him choose a name and be done with it.

You’re impossible.I type.

While I’m waiting for him to respond, my phone rings. There’s a flutter in my stomach when I see his number. I guess texting isn’t good enough.
