Ugh. I need to stop watching the clock. Unfortunately, I can’t concentrate on anything else. I almost wish something was happening in the wedding group chat. At least then I’d have something else to focus on. I wonder what will happen after the wedding when there aren’t any more texts.
A few minutes before two, I casually stand up and make my way to Spencer Brady’s office. No one, including Parker, notices. I guess her detective skills aren’t on point today. Spencer’s door is cracked slightly, so I pop my head in.
“Hey, Tori. Come on in.”
I close the door and sit down across from his desk. I shift around in my chair, trying not to show how nervous I am.
“You probably know what this is about,” he says.
“I’m assuming it’s about the director position, unless I’m way off and you’re firing me.” I clear my throat.
He chuckles. “You’re definitely not getting fired. But, yes, based on your performance, experience and recommendations, we feel like you’re the best person to be the director of sales.”
I exhale a breath I’ve been holding in all day.
“What are your thoughts?” he asks. “I know you’re very content where you are, but would you be willing to step out and lead the sales team?”
This is it. Am I ready? For some reason I suddenly remember being back on that Jet Ski and how exhilarating and free I felt taking more risks. I sigh. I can do this, right?
“I’m very grateful to be considered.” I hesitate as I mentally try to push through my fears about taking on a new challenge.
“Is that a yes?”
I sit up straight and reply. “It’s a yes.”
He claps his hands together. “I’m glad to hear it. Your dedication to GFP Communications is very appreciated and I’m confident that you’re going to take this office to another level.”
At least someone is confident.Meanwhile, I’m feeling slightly panicked.
He tells me that the official announcement will be made soon, and he will be here a few more weeks while I transition. My head is spinning with questions, but I don’t even know where to start. The next few weeks are going to be a whirlwind with this new promotion and the wedding. And poor Parker is going to be so sad when hersoul mateleaves.
This gives me an idea.
“We all appreciate your help since Steven left,” I say. “And off the record—you’ve made quite an impression on one person in particular.”
He raises his eyebrows. “Off the record—will you share that information with me?”
I smile. “Annie Parker thinks very highly of you.”
All of a sudden his cheeks turn a shade of pink. Holy crap, is he blushing?
“I appreciate you letting me know. Annie Parker is quite impressive—professionally speaking, of course.”
I give him a nod. “Of course.”
Parker is going to lose her mind. I think it’s safe to say that Spencer is as enamored with Parker as she is with him. And since he will no longer be working in our office in a few weeks, that could be the green light for them to get to know each other better. Maybe there’s something to that zodiac sign thing after all.
The subject quickly changes back to the task at hand, and I don’t say another word about Parker. I think those two can handle things from here on out.
When I leave his office, I feel like I’m in a daze. Did I make the right decision? Maybe I should’ve taken more time to think about it? It’s fine, right? Despite my uncertainty, there’s also a tiny part of me that’s excited. I can’t wait to tell—for some reason Tyler comes to my mind. Wow. Maybe he has won me over in more ways than just physical attraction?
“Tori?” I look up to see Shannon standing in front of me. She’s wearing another power suit that looks way too large for her. “I called your name three times.”
“Sorry. I must’ve zoned out.”
She raises an eyebrow.
“Did you just meet with Mr. Brady?”
