“I get it—you don’t want to be the person who disrupts the whole wedding.”
“And it will. Erica and Rachel are both Caroline’s friends. It’s an impossible position to put her in. This is supposed to be the happiest time in her life.”
Parker grows quiet for a few seconds. Hopefully, that means she’s coming up with a solution for me.
“On another note, please tell me you spent some time with that hottie Tyler.”
The mention of Tyler brings so many thoughts to my mind.
“Actually, yes. We had a few chats and we played bingo together.”
“Are you serious?” Parker exclaims. “He must be really into you if you convinced him to play bingo.”
“I didn’t convince him to do anything,” I retort. “He was already planning to play.”
“Wow, you two are more compatible than I thought.”
“Ha. I’m not so sure about that, considering there’s another woman in the picture,” I say.
“You mean the other bridesmaid?” she asks.
“That’s the one. I think she despises me more now than before the cruise.”
“Fantastic. What happened?”
I give her the sordid details of Leslie’s confrontation and then my interaction with Tyler.
“Interesting.”
“I can’t believe that’s all you have to say. I’m a little disappointed,” I insist.
She giggles. “I’m processing everything you’ve told me.”
I did just unload a lot of information on her, and I’m sure I still forgot something that happened this weekend.
“You don’t know if Tyler was with Leslie last night,” she says. “She’d be the type to stay out all night to make you think they were together.”
“Yes, she would.”
“So don’t rule Tyler out just yet.”
I sigh. “Maybe.”
“That being said, how did you leave things with him?”
“We didn’t have a chance to talk today,” I tell her. “I said good-bye to everyone and left.”
“He’ll probably reach out to you.”
“Who knows?” I say. “Or I may not see him until the wedding.”
“I think you will,” she says confidently.
I’m finally home, so I tell Parker I’ll call her later. I have big plans to do laundry, relax, and unwind for the remainder of the day. Sometimes you need a vacation from your vacation.
ChapterFourteen
My phone continues to buzz from inside my bag. It’s been almost a week since the cruise, and Erica is back in full maid of honor mode. She actually took a day off, and then the messages started again. One of her main concerns in her texts are the cupcakes for the shower. Who knew cupcakes would require so much attention? She sends several detailed layouts of how they could be divided and displayed at the shower. Is this really an important bridesmaid decision? I was so conflicted with how to answer I finally told her to go with her gut. Leslie chimed in with her opinion, and Rachel remained silent. She’s only commented on a few texts since we’ve returned. Poor unsuspecting Jeannie has rejoined the conversation and asked how the cruise went. Of course everyone, including me, said we had a great time. And there were aspects that were fun, other than the growing tensions that will blow up this group sooner or later.
